Hi all! Bought this 540i back in March of this year and have loved getting to know it! I ve done a few easy things, removed M5 replica mirrors for the standard ones and taken off the wind deflectors as not to my personal taste. Done a Major service with gearbox fluid and fuel filter replaced, new chain tensioner and a couple of airflow sensors needed. It s currently in hibernation getting new sills, wings and a full respray and a full coolant system renewal. I ll add some progress photos

Refreshing the headlights always lifts the front of an E39 - it’s just a shame that just like the tailgate lights, coolant system, bodywork and electronic modules, they’re made of chocolate.

They definitely need a lot of car and attention! Haha I’ll do my best to keep it up to a gold standard though.

Cheers guys! Will get interior photos uploaded later today, it was originally wrapped in carbon black when I got the vehicle, but I’ve reverted back to the OEM wood. Shall get before and afters and some current Bodyshop images uploaded later today.

First image is when I got it and then second is after taking the wrap off it. Personally I wanted it to look more OEM / “ old man spec “ haha not to everyone’s taste though.

Manual too?! Lovely, rare as hens teeth!

Nice interior; much prefer the vavona wink I am biased though biggrin

This is my 540i Sport with its newly re-trimmed steering wheels from RSW

I also reinstated the vavona trim and replaced the birch anthracite which I sold on for £450 - crazy money, but very rare apparently. I didn't like it, just too dark for the interior with all the black leather etc

When I see others in the different colours it just makes me love the look of these cars inside and out - time less !

I hunted for a Manual for ages! Haha if you don’t mind me asking how much ( roughly ) did that wheel retrim set you back? That’s the exact style I’m wanting for mine! Looks glorious!

I bet; not many about!

I'd have loved a Jap import 540i Sport touring but they never come across, can understand why! I did have a Jap import 530i Sport touring for 2.5 years, sold it late 2021 and the current owner still has it and he's on here a few pages back... That was a superb car; loved every minute of owing it

The steering wheel cost me £180 inc delivery for the re-trim; but thats with sending a spare one to them - makes life easier then too

It's the same style as I had done in my very 1st E39 back in 2012 - slightly thicker with nappa leather top/bottom and perforated leather on the sides; Jack & Co at Royal Steering Wheels do superb work; would highly recommend them

That looks superb! Both the previous 530 you owned and the wheel! I must say £180 seems a good deal! When you say sending a spare wheel does that mean you had 2 and let them keep one? I’d have to just get mine removed and send it to them for re-trimming.

The car fooled me! I thought it was pretty clean, but there are horrors beneath! Haha all getting attended to though, but shows what kills these cars! Wings had early signs of bubbling, but decided its best to get them renewed.

I had a spare one, sent that to them to get retrimmed and then fitted that and sold the wheel that was in the car on for £100

The wood lifts the interior very well. Even better it has a manual. Ooofff
