Android auto screen
Discussion
I have an 05 DB9 and as you know the screen and GPS system isn't great.
Basically I just just my mobile as a sat nav and I have a Bluetooth iPod unit for sound etc.
My question is.
Has anyone just bought an android auto 7" screen let's say, removed the original screen and then 3d printed a casing for the new screen and fitted in it's place whilst retaining the screen rotation function?
I'm not bothered about integration to the cars system as I could just mirror my phone screen for maps etc. so would only need power to the new screen but it's whether the old screen is intrinsically linked into the rotating operation and if it throws a error up if the original screen isn't attached to the loom.
Any thoughts or experience welcome.
Thanks

I've done a more simple thing that I'm totally happy with. I bought two in fact, a 7in and a 10.6in.
I kept the 10.6in.
It's juste perfect in my 2010 Vantage.
The setup is the following.
My iphone is connected to the car in BT for the phone and to a bevee iPod BT module for the music. So commands on the steering wheels work for both the phone and the volume / music.
It's also connected in WiFi to the screen. The screen is a touch screen. When a phone call arrives, my screen show the call. I can touch the screen to answer or press the phone button on the steering wheel.
Etc... It has cost me 100$ roughly and I've hidden the only cable under the console.
The screen is much bigger and better than the original nav screen, touchable, etc...
I had looked at the carplay upgrade for the original screen and it was something like 2000-3000$... No go.
My setup works on the Vantage with the phase II central consol. I think on the first version, I'm not sure it would work.

I did something similar to the poster above in my V8 Vantage, but I went for the smallest display I could find which was designed for motorcycles. Super clean design, combined with thin cabling routed through the trim, and a chrome mount that looks decent for the minimal amount you can see it through the windscreen. Video of the setup and parts list below.

6 inch CarPlay unit from AliExpress for well under AU$100, a small chrome ball mount (3M to the dash), a 12V adapter that auto powers off after 60 seconds, and a few cables and a USB-C to C adapter.
Music audio runs through an iPod-BT adapter (inc steering wheel controls), phone through the factory Aston Martin BT Phone system.

Hey Mitch. Nice setup too.
How do you do for the screen to go off when you turn off your car? How does your module know that the key is off?
Thanks

To OP: one point to consider is : if you find a way to replace the original screen by a touch screen, one of the biggest issue you will get is to reach it with your hand as it's quite far.
