Low Energy G9 Oven Lamp?
Discussion
Is there such a thing? One of the lamps in our oven blew and I've sourced a replacement. What surprised me though, is that it is a 40w bulb.
The lights are usually on when the oven is on and there are 2 bulbs so using 80w. This is more than having all of the downlights in the kitchen switched on.
I realise that the ovens are using 3kw but given the push to move to low energy bulbs, 2 x 40w bulbs seems a bit extravagant.
The lamp is a 40w Halogen G9 Capsule.

One of our ovens has a failed bulb. I started to unscrew it but it broke leaving the metal base in the holder. It's awkward to get at and see inside the holder to get a grip with something to remove it. I've tried pliers to grip the metal with a mirror to view but failed. It hasn't been any real hassle without a light. I think I need to remove the oven ( built in) to get the remnants out. Oven cooks fine so not urgent. Until SWMBO decides.....

It's all converted into heat - your 40w bulb means the heating element will need to use a little less energy (let's call it "40w" and ignore kwh vs. kw) to heat the oven. With or without the bulbs, the electrical energy used to cook Christmas lunch will be the same.
Exactly, the energy isn’t wasted, it heats the oven.Rough101 said:

As mentioned above; I know that 2x40w is peanuts when the elements are using 3kw, but having swapped pretty much all of the bulbs in the house for low energy ones, these are now the highest wattage bulbs in the place.
I'd never really considered the oven bulbs when swapping all the rest !

You got your answer. They are actively helping heat your oven so there is zero point unless you plan on leaving them on when NOT cooking, for long periods. As mentioned above; I know that 2x40w is peanuts when the elements are using 3kw, but having swapped pretty much all of the bulbs in the house for low energy ones, these are now the highest wattage bulbs in the place.
