My lads cat, been with us through some tough times & did my lad right.

Strongly bonded to our other cat.

He’s about 14 (rescue cat) & has a crap time of it this year, cost about £2.5k at the Vets in recent months (thankfully insured).

Tomorrows visit will be his last, his time has come.

He’s asleep in my lap now, as normal for a winters evening.

A gentler, more loving cat will never come along, life will never be the same again.

No idea of what to say, but I’m sure it is best for him and that should keep your heart at least a little warm.

Thoughts go to you and hope he finds all the springs in the sky to play with x

I've experienced this evening OP... 13 months ago. Lost for words other than thinking of you all and the little guy.

You have my utmost sympathy. I lost my favourite thing in the world this morning, my 16 year old dog Beth. It's been worse for me than losing my parents, an utterly visceral and destructive emotion. All the best.

Your cat has enjoyed a decent life, thousands if not millions of other cats would have gladly swapped places.
To be eased out gently after being loved and cared for so many years, many animals (and humans come to that) could do a hell of a lot worse.

We're in a similar situation, our cat is 10, diagnosed with cancer about 2.5 years ago and given 3 months. No insurance in place (long story, we thought we were covered, turned out they never sent out a reminder so we missed it). Much money spent but ultimately would have required 2 separate ops and much discomfort to give her an extra 6 months, so we made the tough decision to see what happened with it. She has lasted very well and has been happy and had a good life, but she is starting to eat less now, and while still happy and with a good coat she has lost a fair bit of weight recently, and the size of the tumour is now rather large. I suspect we only have weeks at best, It staggers me how the vet can have got the life expectancy so wrong - I know it's not a precise art form, but to survive more than 2 years beyond the best guess with no treatment when you are a small animal with a relatively short lifespan... Having also just lost my mum (to cancer amongst other things) the timing is impeccable!

Thanks all, the deed is done.

Most concerned about how our other cat will cope, she’s currently in my lap which is not normal for her!

Yes, he had a great life & was very pampered, having come from a semi feral farm life he appreciated the upgrade!

Really, really sorry to read about this, I've gone through this multiple times and it never, ever gets any easier. My view on it is that it's the most difficult decision any loving and caring animal owner can make but it can also be the easiest. No-one wants to see their pet suffer needlessly and it takes real love and compassion to recognise the right time. Bless you.

You gave them a great life, and didn't let them suffer, that's two important things.

Thank you.

She’s coping surprisingly well.

I’m sure she knew.
