As we are almost in December... Who else has got a project, big or small, on the go with a deadline "to be in by Christmas"?

We are hoping to get our side bedroom finished, so that our 9 and 6 year old boys can have separate bedrooms. I think that we are on track - there is a bit more painting to do, then we can start on the finishing touches. the only potential fly in the ointment is getting the carpet fitted, we were told that we needed to book in the carpet fitter by the end of last week, but he still hasn't given us a quote yet, but assures us we will still be OK to get it fitted before Christmas...

I've decorated before xmas, carpets etc down, nice when you get it done.

Funny how we are arrange our DIY around Christmas though, it must be some sort of thing we've inherited from Victorian ancestors.

We had a leaking bog that had trashed the engineered flooring underneath, so November last year Mrs Bill got the bit between her teeth and get the toilet removed so I could had to crack on. Unfortunately there was a layer of old glue underneath that had to be scraped off which slowed things down.

Then I broke my hand.

Then we got used to the lack of loo, and the weather was great...

But I managed to get it finished this month! Just in time. biggrin

Your project is certainly a bit bigger than mine though - I have been enjoying your thread. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

We were hoping to have it done by the end of the summer holidays and the rest of upstairs done by Christmas, we were somewhat optimistic. It will be nice to have a couple of weeks off over Christmas though.

As long as nobody is specifying which Christmas, I’m getting it all finished in time (probably)!

Moving in to new house on 17/12/25 - needs new windows, doors, cavity wall insulation, under floor insulation, room-in-roof insulation, new kitchen, build an upstairs bathroom, decorate, new flooring, new conservatory, solar panels & battery, new central heating blah blah blah

Don’t think it’ll be finished for Xmas but we’ll be in though……

I feel like you should have perhaps clarified there was more than one toilet in the house ... as reading that sentence about getting used to lack of a loo as the weather was great ...

hehe Yes, we have another couple, just the logistics of getting 5 people out the door for work and school was more of a pain.

Decorating 3 upstairs bedrooms plus the landing and stairs before 17 Dec when carpet fitter arrives.

Included in the job...

While no upstairs carpets run 10mm2 induction hob and other electrical cables ready for next years kitchen project.
While wiring is accessible install extra sockets upstairs and downstairs and convert 2 rings into 4 rings (completed by electrician).
Cable the house for Cat 6 and install a comms cabinet on landing at ceiling level.
Replace all skirting and architrave with square edge.
Replace stairs and landing balustrade with glass.
Replace 18 internal doors in house.
Remove and paint 4 radiators.

As of today 2 bedrooms ready for carpet.

That is the sort of thing we were aiming for “before Christmas” when we moved in earlier in the summer. We revised our plans and ambition…

I used to work for a sofa manufacturer.

The "get it delivered by Christmas" pressures where phenomenal.

When we closed the factory doors on after sending out the last pre Christmas deliveries we all used to collapse!

biggrin We then had to come back in January to face the music for those items that didn't quite make it.

I still have to hang/purchase 6 doors for upstairs, but it's only been on the 'to do' list for eleven years!

Nothing material this year.

I mean there is a long list of things still to be done at home, but none have been moved on materially for a while and none prevent the operation of any part of the house, so they can all wait and become New Year jobs.

That said, we are having a fridge freezer for the garage delivered this coming Friday (5th Dec) and ideally that requires some meaningful moving of things, including electrical work, for it to go into its long term home (i.e. create room to get the MX5 in the garage). None of it beyond my ability, but the only trouble is I'm away this coming weekend and the weekend after, and then we have plans (and the usual stress) for the weekend immediately before Christmas.

Maybe I'll sort it in the period between Christmas and New Year....? Yeah right....! biggrin

Good luck to all those moving house or completing big renovation tasks..!
