I have a PHEV plug in hybrid. Any idea how this 1.5p/mile tax might work for plug-in hybrid company cars?

Will that extra tax somehow be swallowed by the lease company and built in to the lease cost to the company? Will I get a personal bill to pay?

Nobody knows.

My guess is the lease companies will pass on to the employer. Employers will then decide whether to charge employees.

It's a bit like when road tax goes up, lease companies send a bill for the difference between that paid and that costed in the lease.

I suppose most companies will absorb the cost, but maybe charge the employees for the private use element?

But, the whole calculation thing is a big unknown.

It s November 2025. This doesn t start until April 2028. That s 28 months away. There are many more taxation changes that will impact you between now and then. If you do 12,000 miles a year, this will cost you 50p a day. It really is a total irrelevance compared to the changes to fuel duty that take effect in 10 months time.

Will it apply to electric buses? I assume not.

This st needs stopping.

They are trying to stop individuals from usimg private transport.

If they try to do it with tax, they will simply make private transport a privilege of the rich - which is hardly very socialist!
