Do you do your own ironing?

Been married forty five years, until about five years ago, I always left it to Mrs WR, who always did a great job.

I must admit I always felt sorry for her many years ago, when she was faced with a mountain of ironing when we had three young lads, as well as holding down two demanding jobs, although I did help out around the house as much as I could.

Now, both retired, we are in the fortunate position to be able to hire a couple of cleaners, and the lads have flown the nest, but the ironing won't do itself.

Therefore, I decided around five years ago I would do my own, and you know what? I actually enjoy it, providing I am in the mood, I find it very therapeutic, I can either lose myself in my thoughts or put some music on to listen to.

Even though I say so myself, I am quite good at it, just finished an hour's session.

Anyone else?

Never ironed in my enitre life. Gravity will eventually do its job.

If you do need to wear a shirt with a collar you can iron the collar with hair straighteners and wear a jumper on top.

About 1 shirt a year is my current rate. Like all things there's a certain satisfaction in doing a good job.

But not enough to want to spend more time than is absolutely necessary.

I used to when I had an office based job where I had to go smart.

Nowadays I'm pretty casual and just dry things carefully enough to avoid the need for an ironing

I do the majority of the ironing in our house apart from trousers that require a crease. I leave those to Mrs J.

Ironed a couple of times when I was single in the early '90s. Mainly work shirts.

When I was between jobs and stuck at home I did all the housework including the ironing. One day I didn’t start it until after my wife got home from work. Anyway, after watching me iron for five minutes she jumped up and took over, saying it was too painful watching me trying. Needless to say the pile that normally took me hours she whizzed over in a couple of minutes. I didn’t iron again after that!

Both shift workers and both need to have smart shirts for uniform. I'm the ironer. I'm a bloke by the way in case that's a factor in the discussion.

Couple of formal nights coming up that'll require shirts ironed, but other than that casual clothes and drying carefully avoids the need.

We both would do our own ironing as and when anyway.

I'm doing some right now...iron drying.
I have done the ironing for years... strange that my ex's said that I was better at it than them.

Towels etc to follow... Bedding tomorrow... Whilst watching the GP.
(But I don't iron socks & pants).

NB: I iron inside out...as taught by my Mum many years ago.

I enjoy ironing but we have quite an old fashioned household where my wife is the home maker. Just bought a Laura Star ironing system for her. She wanted it for years. Just under £2k ouch.

The last time any of my cloths were ironed was 8 years ago when I needed a smart shirt for an interview, the wife did it for me. Not ironed or had anything of mine ironed since.

I used to iron work shirts in the 80's to the mid 90's but apart from the odd shirt nothing has been ironed since the late 90's.

How do you all not iron stuff? Surely its creased to heck?

I do my own, have done for last 15+ years.

Usually twice a week. Takes maybe 20-25 minutes each time.

What are you ironing?

I generally wear polos and jeans, maybe a jumper on this time of year. no requirement to iron any of those. When dried sensibly theres no creases in the polos.

Even some of my shirts wouldnt need ironed if tumble dried.

Haven’t ironed anything since retiring 5 years ago. Hang T-shirts etc straight away and don’t find they need ironing. When I used to iron it gave me back ache so bought a steamer which I much preferred.

Even jeans need ironing. And as for more normal work trousers, chinos or whatever, I don’t see how you can’t iron them and go to work?

Due to work I have to look semi-professional so I won’t be able to not iron anything until I’m retired.

In my previous life my wife was a lazy cow.
I had to do all the cleaning and ironing on my day off.
I would go to Blockbuster and hire a couple of videos and then spend half the day ironing. The only thing I had a problem with was my daughter's pleated school skirts.
Now, with my second wife, because we're retired we hardly iron anything. It's all just carefully put away.
