After reading evo and there project 8 minutes M3 i ahve decided i am goona set myself a time to do the ring in next year.

With just filter and exhaust i was lapping in the 9.40s in my S1 but i would like to get under 9 minutes next year when i go. Since i was last there i have got S2 suspension, uprated antiroll bar, nylatron AR bushes 160 tb, VVC manifold and some advan neovas in a couple of weeks.

Do you reckon this will be sufficent or reckon that i would need alot more doing to get near the 9 minute mark? I am asking because i really want to do this

Lotus exige S1 posted a lap time of 8:32, so with the right tyres, suspension, bit more power (induction exhaust etc as you have specified), around 9 min is not out of the question. How familiar are you with the track? Standard Mazda MX5 has lapped in just over 9:30 and a bog standard S1 is quicker by a good margin.

So much of it is driver dependent as well (no disrespect intended) - driver mods and getting really familiar with the circuit (folks seem to use Gran Turismo 4 as a cheap way to familiarise yourself with the track) are probably the best way to knock plenty of time off given the mods you have made so far. Good luck with trying. I will troll around and find some of the lad's times in S1's.

I have done it on GT4 and still do it every now and then.

So really more power will be needed in reality

I meant that you have enough advantage over standard already that you could give it a go as is. The problem is that you don't want to overdue the engine mods on a k series. By the time you are doing head, cams, forged pistons, balanced crank, ecu, branch manifold etc etc, you might as well look at a Hoanda conversion. With what you have already, the car will be capable of near 9min - as I said if an MX5 can do 9:30, a boggo standard elise can go quite a bit quicker. You have probably made quite a bit of difference with the suspension, add sticky rubber and you will be better off than a few more BHP.

You should try and get stickier rubber than that if you can like Yoko AO48's. You would need to have nitrons or LSS and uprated toe links though.

Good luck! Do let us know the times when you've been. Obviously, be careful - the ring doesn't take any prisoners, and there are some very fast sections that are crucial to a good time (like the run up the hill from Bergwerk for instance).

As has been said, a lot of it is knowledge of the track with the 'ring - which Sabine proved by doing 10 minutes in a van on Top Gear! There are so many points where most people back off and use sensible and understandable caution, where in actual fact someone like Sabine will have the throttle nailed..

Going under 9 minutes should be possible - so have fun! (and be careful of course!).

well under 9 mins is easily possible but elise is not really fast enough from 60 onwards to get really fast times.
As just been said, the ring is scary and with no real run off before hitting expensive armco, no wonder timing laps is not allowed or encouraged...
i love it so much though everytime i go i can't get enough of the challenge and buzz it gives!
Unfortunately Top gear and GT4 are making it more crowded than ever and yes the track is well reproduced on gt4 but will lead to more crashes in real life! Ultimately, I believe the ring will eventually close or regulate the public days.. never been and not seen a few crashes, usually crazy bikers or cocky brits!!

Enjoy! I will be there at some point in spring - maybe april if any other elises fancy joining me..

Stickier rubber like the A048s would be nice but i have to run the car over winter too so that would just scare me and leaving me to walk everywhere lol.

I have been thinking nitrons for a while actually buts its wether i can bring myself to spend the the money on them when i do not earn a massive amount.

After watching my videos from when i done the ring in may i saw loads of places where i could improve my time like i noticed i had too much track etiquite which is a good thing but not if you are trying to get a decent time in, like what was said earlier i did back off quite alot when i did not need to.

JJCC - I will be there again around april may time like i did this year

You could always get another set of wheels for the A48Rs? It'd probably pay after a while, as you wouldn't want to be using 48Rs everyday anyway because they'd wear out too fast!

I'd get some uprated front brakes - the fastest way to go faster is to stop faster.

I think 9mins is on the cards with what you've got.
