I saw on the GOV website my E39s under the recall too... Haven't done anything about it yet but will do when I'm feeling better

Received the recall letter yesterday (E46). Letter states the passenger airbag to be replaced, steering wheel airbag may also need replacement again.

No longer own my 330 but remember having my passenger one done under a recall only a few years ago, not good that they need doing again so soon!

Blimey this still doing the rounds! My E39 driver airbag was done about 8 years ago!

I had both passenger and driver airbags done on mine by Cotswold BMW pretty soon after receiving the original recall letters years ago.

I was surprised to see a new recall letter, and hopefully I can get it booked in some time in the future. Unfortunately, my E46 has more pressing (rusty) issues to be dealt with first, plus an MOT, before I can think about a getting another recall booked in.

The garage I work at that specialises in the sale of used VAG cars has also received similar recall letters about a couple of the older VW cars they still use as courtesy cars and I had to take one of those to a VW dealership earlier in the week. Apparently, VW managed to screw the recall up despite having the car for 36 hours, so it has to go back again imminently.

Hi, I have an E46 Alpina and interestingly I have not received a letter, however, if I check the original BMW VIN it tells be that there is a recall on the vehicle, although it only gives a code (0072760200, with no description of the issue. I'll have a chat with the local BMW dealer and see what results, although not getting my hopes up with them.

Cheers
Dave

That code is what's on my letter

Same issue with our 2015 3 series GT pool car. Pain in the arse.

I believe it’s because of this:

My M3 was in at Group 1 Reading for both driver and passenger this week. Passenger was done but driver on back order until end of December.

As this bankrupted Takata the first time round, who picks up the tab this time? Individual car brands?

I think BMW are just picking up the tab, not much other choice.

Given that the pool of affected vehicles is diminishing, and some people will take the view of "oh well, if it hasn't happened by now it won't be a problem, I'll leave it" line then the cost is probably fairly low, relatively speaking.

The problem with not getting it done is that the problem is only prevalent when the airbag is deployed. You could have a fairly innocuous non-fault collision which causes said deployment, which ends up putting pieces of metal into your face at high velocity.

Lots of brands have the same issues with these airbags,my brother had a recall for his Mercedes passenger airbag 2 years ago,he hasn't had it done because apparently Mercedes do a reset on the engine ECU at the same time (remember dieselgate) which results in worse economy and performance

My Wife's 2011 C Class recently had the passenger air bag recall done. I specifically requested they did not carry out the ECU flash recall.

Just looked at my records and realised the passenger side was done in 2015 and the drivers in 2017, I'd forgotten about that one so looks like they'll both be getting done again..... apparently there's a shortage of stock at the moment

It's an official safety recall again, so there is zero cost to the owner - The only possible issue is an inconvenience to owners, of having to get their cars to a BMW Dealership to get the work done, as chances are they will want the cars for a day, to get the work done (not because it will a whole day to do the work, but they will have to fit the cars into their working day, and can't guarantee exactly when the repair will be carried out in the day)

It would be crazy for owners to ignore the free repair though on the theory: "if it hasn't happened by now it won't be a problem" - Because if the worst does happen, those airbags might just save their lives for free!
