Cool car, but usual pet pieve is as per the logbook, This is an M Coupe, not a Z3 lol

Has the car had any attention behind the sills, jacking points etc. Can you account for the general surface, especially rust under the bonnet etc, has it been a Scottish or coastal car? The paintwork looks like it needs a really good clean and polish, is this the case, or are they just poor photos.

Just trying to work out the cost of getting it mint, It cost me well over 8K on my 1999 S50.

cheers

John

OK!

I am not a mechanical type. If it is not in the receipts it has not been done since 2011.

I bought the car from someone in London in 2006. I drove it around the SE on business based in Winchester 2006-2011.
From 2011-2023 as you can see the car did little mileage. It was parked under a cover in Gloucestershire. Since 2023 it has been parked on the roadside in Edinburgh. The nearest water is the fresh water Firth of Forth.

The paintwork looks like it needs a really good clean and polish, is this the case, or are they just poor photos.
No you are right. I have had long covid and not been able to make it look as good as it could do for sale.

You have seen the receipts I dont think I have had a lot of issues in 20 years. I think it is a good 'un but it is nearly 25 yo. When the photographer came around he owned an E34 and E36 and looked at the receipts and (slightly aside from the gearbox) thought what had been changed was what he would expect.

I hope that helps.

A world first with a freshwater firth! This car appears to be a little neglected. Good luck with the auction.

Just to clarify for anyone reading — the car was inspected on a ramp by Waddell Garage in March 2024 and they confirmed there was no structural corrosion. It has spent most of its life in the south of England 2001-2024. It would benefit from a proper clean and polish before sale, and all mechanical work is reflected in the receipts. Happy to answer any genuine questions.

Hi, do you know the background behind the speedo change?

Hi

According to the logbook (image 138), the speedometer was replaced at 12,745 miles on 3/3/2003 by the previous owner. When I bought the car in 2006, I was told the original unit had failed.

I was just on the site answering the post above and noticed a 2000 911 (996) for sale. Back in 2006, when I bought my S54, I was looking at ‘fast cars’ like the Impreza, Audi S3, and TVR Chimaera — I even dreamed wilder with cars like the Cerbera (but had to get to the client 😉), a Honda NSX or a Noble M12 (I had to sell to the client!).

I also tried a couple of 911s, my first experience with paddle shift and sight of only the rev counter, seemed to upset the salesman. They were more expensive than an M Coupe, offered similar performance, and driving up and down the M3, there were just a lot of them. I chose the S54 over the S50 mainly for the VANOS issue and ended up chasing around the country for an S54 from East Sussex to Bristol to Leeds to Leamington Spa and London.

Two decades later, I should have ignored my boss and gone for the NSX, almost all the other cars have lost value, while M Coupes have gone up. (I think the M12 is even money for the mileage). I still love this car — every time I see it, get in it, or put my foot down, it stands out. This is the kind of car that continues to turn heads and I think should stay special for a long time to come.

Anyone fancy a trip down memory lane — what cars have caught your eye or been part of your garage over the years?

Hi. Apologies for the query as the info is likely to be shown in the receipts but roughly what mileage have you done in the past couple of years. Many thanks

Hi William it has done 100 miles in the last 2 years. I have had long covid. You can check all the mileage here https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history (Reg Y501TGO). I think it has done 5,000 miles in the last 10 years. NB for the mileage the MOTs take the clock mileage you need to add the 12k for when the clusterset was changed and the clock was reset to 0 (they could not roll it forward).

Just a note for anyone watching — only 168 RHD S54 M Coupes were produced for the UK. Most now have over 100k miles. At around 85k, this one is in a small minority of cars with sub-100k mileage. There are currently no S54s advertised for sale in the UK — only S50s. Happy to answer any questions.

Hi Alex,

The last 2 MOT’s have an oil leak listed. Did the garage advise what was leaking at all?

Also a lot of corrosion on the brake pipes and it initially failed in 2024 for this. Was that rectified? As there s no paperwork for the repair that I can see.

Did they also advise what the engine management light was on for?

Very interested, just trying to gauge how much it s going to cost to put right.
