L322 minefield of buying

I’ve gotten a bit of a thing for wanting one of these, petrol V8 flavour due to simplicity and fun, don’t do too many miles either.

They seem to rust like crazy on the rear arch area and jacking points.

Now I’m off to view one that is dream spec, Tonga/tan, petrol V8 facelift with the Jaguar lump.

It is however showing loads of advisories on brake pipes and rust. For the right price with a years mot is this worth throwing some cash into sorting? Or is this basically a sub 1k mess?

Must be a common repair for these now?

Brake pipes seem a weak point, I suspect because of how exposed they are. I had nearly all of mine replaced on my TDV8 once all in the space of 6 months. Just one of those things. Mine was a fairly decent example, but even so, every 3 to 6 months it needed another £500ish spending on it.

I kept mine for two years, before the EGRs started playing up, which with a £5k price to fix sealed it's fate. I wish my pockets were deeper as I really did love that big old bus to bits.

Hoping being petrol it will save a lot of those hassles… ha ha. It’s got lacquer peel all over and the standard rear wheel arch jacking point rot.

However is not even listed for sale and has a queue of people wanting it simply due to the spec. No doubt if I don’t go for it will see it on sale for another 5k as a future classic

At 20 years old brake pipes are common on a lot of cars, regardless of brand.

The good thing is the L322 ones are easy to replace, and even if you buy the LR OEM ones for the tricky sections, cheap enough.
