In Feb we're flying out to Miami, spending three nights and two days there before a cruise. I mentioned it a few weeks back on the cruise thread and was advised to stay in around South Beach and was given a couple of hotel options - one being Local House which looks lovely.

I'm just throwing it open to the wider community with this thread. We arrive late, so literally have two full days. We want things pretty central, restaurants, a supermarket (to stock up on some booze for the ship) and plan to do a fair bit of walking or public transport. We don't want to blow the budget on hotels so £200/300 a night..

I appreciate its not enough to fully explore the place but would be grateful for any further suggestions on location, hotels, a few places to visit etc. The only thing is we don't want to be too far from the cruise port.

As we're yocals living in ruralshire we've never used an Uber as there aren't any, are these better than normal taxis and would we need a phone sim etc? I'm more thinking transfers from the airport to hotel and hotel to cruise port etc.

Cheers.

I've no idea if it's viable, but it might be worth checking out the Hard Rock stadium where the Miami Dolphins NFL team play their home games. I love big stadiums and I think it's where you're staying.

Think I replied on your cruise thread a while back because I live in South Beach. It wasn't me that suggested Local House but I remember the post. I'll let other chip in with their opinions on locations, hotels, etc.

Don't use the local taxis, they are nasty. Download Uber or Lyft and learn how to use it. Much cheaper and hugely nicer cars. You might even get a driverless Waymo turning up.

Last time we did the same we stayed at Loews South Beach and it was nice and in budget.

One thing that jumped out on me was the booze part, I'm pretty sure you weren't allowed to take it on the cruise we went on, I might be remembering wrong, but worth checking in case they see it on the baggage scan and take it off you. Seem to recall they store it and give it back at the end but that's no good if you're coming home after. Just something to double check.

Not sure about all the cruise lines but Virgin only allow you to take two bottles of wine, no hard booze. You can take your giant american water bottles of course, to stay hydrated ;-)

I can only speak of Royal Caribbean and Disney, they confiscate anything over a bottle of wine

Haven’t been there for a few years since I stopped work but always used to stay at the Biltmore in Coral Gables.
Bit different.
15 minutes from the port and with your budget should be doable.

Thanks, we're on Cunard, they turn a blind eye to how much alcohol you take on board, we'd be looking at a bottle of gin, a small box of wine or similar.

Thanks, unfortunately we're going in peak season it appears, we were recommended Loews but its £500/£600 a night for our dates. The Biltmore looks similar pricewise for Feb.

Noted, thanks.
