Manufacturers such as BMW (M4 GTS/M5 CS), Audi (RS6 GT) and Porsche (911 Dakar) seem to make a lot more "specials" with custom paint jobs than they used to but although distinctive, a lot of them are too "try hard" for me. Looking a bit further back in history or even more recent history, what car in your opinion has the coolest "factory" paint job.

I can't think of anything that recent but it has to be a Lotus of some description for me.

Imagine it's the mid-1960s and you had a white 2 door mk1 Cortina with a green stripe down the side, was there anything cooler?

Elan Sprint

Talbot Sunbeam

Esprit JPS (and I think many black cars look fantastic on gold rims but this was possibly the first to do it)

Or the 1980s Esprit "Essex" Turbo

I guess more recent examples would be the Subaru Impreza 22B and Mitsubishi Evo VI TME but for me, the old Lotuses are cooler.

Lexus "Structural Blue" on the LC because it's not blue.

I like colours like Honda Pirate Black and Imperial Green on the Lotus Carlton, dark shades that transform in sunlight.

It's an amazing colour especially in person. Fascinating that it doesn't contain any blue.

Sonic red on the LC is stunning too.

VW Polo Harlequin!

Supplied new from the factory looking like someone had bought various panels from a scrapyard.

I'm a sucker for a two tone, the Abarth Riva ones were pretty cool but nothing beats a flip TVR.

My dad had one (a hatch though) in that colour. By far and away the coolest car he's ever had. His idea of an exciting car is if it's got an auto closing boot

Always quite partial to the two Nissan colours Millennium Jade and Midnight Purple 3 on the R34GTR's -

That MP3 paint has black, purple, navy blue and orange all in it when the sun comes out, just stunning IRL.

Always liked the TVR flip paints. Rover 220 coupe had a similar blue/purple one too I think.

I want a Lexus LC now after seeing that videobiggrin

IMHO nothing beats a "flip" paint whatever the car.

The Rover purple was called Amaranth and was available across the range. Was indeed lovely
