Watched this at the weekend with my wife and teenage sons. On Netflix. Thought it was very good, although the first act set-up took a little bit too long.

Oscar Isaac is excellent as usual. Jacob Elordi really steals the whole film as the creature.

It is fairly close to the book but some changes are a bit of shame - like the family dynamic and an unnecessary Christoph Waltz character. I think Frankestein is more sympathetic in the book but overall 4 body parts out of 5.

NB - quite gory in places for a cert 15. My 14 and 17 year olds were a little bit shocked in places.

Also watched it at the weekend. Looks great, but seemed over-long to me and dragged on.

For me, 30 mins shorter and it would have been better.

20 minutes in and I’m struggling to get into it

I'm the opposite - absolutely loved it and the runtime went in a flash for me. Contrast with Nosferatu which I felt did very much drag.

It's visually stunning, great performances, but everyone know's the story.

Do they really know the story though? One of my favourite novels and one that is heartbreaking, or certainly the way I read it....

Bit marvel comics superpowers . Anyone stuck together from different bits would barely be able to move.
As for pitchfork wielding villagers being horrified, there was constant war on so someone covered in scars could just say he was injured in the conflict, and lap up the sympathy.
But it was still good.

Terrific point - now I can never enjoy a 'Frankenstein' movie.

Really enjoyed it- definitely could have gotten going a bit sooner but the cast and design were excellent.

Sorry about that, but if I think about it more he was imbued with bazzillions of volts of electricity and some sort of secret sauce. So nothing as stupid as a spider bite lol.
Its a masterpiece of logic compared to the bizarre 1931 effort where victor gets away with living happy ever after, even though he desecrated graves, and was indirectly responsible for the death of his old professor and a small child at minimum.
What were they smoking in the 1930s. Its worth watching just to try and understand the mindset at the time.
