Spectre Black Badge gets Novitec overhaul

Spofec offshoot adds carbon, lowers suspension 35mm, fits 24-inch wheels...

While clearly sharing some design cues with the rest of the Rolls-Royce range, there really is nothing quite like a Spectre. That illuminated grille unashamedly announces its arrival, and the sheer size as it silently glides past is incredible. The first time seeing Rolls-Royce’s giant EV coupe lingers long in the memory.

Which, for good and for bad, will probably make any sighting of the new Spofec-modified Spectre Black Badge pretty much unforgettable. Spofec sounds like another weight loss jab, but is actually Novitec’s luxury offshoot specifically for Rolls-Royce (in case the popularity of modifying them was in any doubt), more focused on eye-popping presence than neck-straining acceleration. You might remember its efforts with the Cullinan and Ghost, so the electric flagship was pretty much guaranteed to follow.

We have to discuss the wheels first, and not just because they’re silver (as pretty much every wheel should be, apart from some special exceptions). Like most Novitec wheel options, these SP4s have been designed with Vossen; they boast 17 pairs of spokes, so best ensure your detailing staff are up to snuff for those, and measure an incredible 24 inches in diameter.

Perhaps this doesn’t seem so crazy when you consider that the car is available on 23s from the factory, but still - 24-inch wheels. On a coupe. And they don’t look ridiculous; on the contrary, the Spectre looks great from here, helped by a 35mm ride height drop. That’s how massive this Rolls-Royce is.

Additional changes for a Spofec Spectre include the new front spoiler with extra LEDs, which is neatly integrated. There are also new carbon bits throughout (not that you’d be able to tell in this colour), including the diffuser and spoilers. Expect any influence on actual aero to be as nominal as the impact on kerbweight. But they do the mean and moody aesthetic absolutely no harm at all.

With a host of interior options also possible (just in case Rolls-Royce didn’t do a good enough job), there’s scope for Spofec customers to create something totally out of this world with a Spectre. Or keep a black Black Badge and put big wheels on it. The latest batch of parts is available now, as are standard Spectres from £260k; nobody will care about 659hp rather than 585hp once those 24s are on…

Weird, a modified RR that looks less tacky than the factory ones that have been on here of late.

Typically hate these sort of creations, but that is cool, and agree with the above, manages to look less tacky than the abominations that the press teams spec.

I was about to baulk at the thought of modifying a RR, but then realised 120 years ago Novitec would have been called a Coachbuilder and it was common to hand your newly minted RR over to such a company to personalise it to your taste. So I guess this gets a pass. Not sold on the wheels but otherwise it looks pretty good.

As others have said - silly wheels apart, this actually looks considerably better than the recent factory efforts.

Not the first car that looks a bit like the new - much derided - Jaguar. Might Jaguar be onto something after all? I hope so for its sake.

I wonder if Novitec use Mansory glue to hold it all together?

They have it wrong as usually an extra charge is made for the 'new money' gaudy look..

Mind you.. there is still the label to massage the ego

I saw of these at Goodwood for the first time and then again last weekend on the road, it has some presence and there's something undeniably cool about them which I have never got with RR before.

I think I'd prefer it with an engine in though, no doubt electric suits their use case but a rumbling engine would add to it.

Wonder how quickly they'll depreciate.

I won't be getting one of these as TBH Spofec sounds too close to Spaff for my liking. Shame as I like this, and quite liked what they did to the Ghost too.

I quite like the wheels, but they are aggressive and would be complemented by a powerful engine. So would consider these on a ICE RR coupe instead.

As an aside, are the article headline strap-lines suppose to be formatted that way (right-aligned), or will they ever get fixed?

Apart from the blacked-out rear side windows, I quite like that.

It may also look a bit better on slightly smaller wheels / higher profile tyres.

Oh wow, that takes one of my favourite cars and makes it even more desireable. ANOTHER lottery daily to add to my ever expanding list...

Yes, that definitely looks better than RR's own effort. Just remove the red coachline, and will be better.

Like other posters, that nice. I still think other colourways suit it a little better, but thats a very subtle and under the radar solutions. (subtle for a large RR, naturally)

The wheels need a powerful engine? Really? And that would be a less powerful and no noisier engine than the standard Spectre's 659bhp/793 lb-ft?

(and forgetting this is the only RR Coupe available now)

I thought a coach builder designed and built a body for your car specific to your requirements.

A bit of a slap in the chops for RR.
When you order 'your' RR do you not sit down and specify your exact requirements from the master craftsmen who work for the company?

Do RR just fire fancy 7 series with knobs on out of a factory leaving you to sort your own customisation ? This is rhetorical, of course RR don't do this.

There again, maybe the personalisation service is no longer required by younger customers which is why Novitec exists.

Funny world.
