Why are so many lamps / ceiling lights G9 fitment nowadays?
Discussion
G9 fitment is compromised as an LED bulb due to the small space to fit emitter and driver (and so failures are frequent, regardless of brand), and yet it feels like nearly all the interesting designs are either G9 fitment or LED strip bulbs (which will then look s
t as soon as a few of the individual LEDs start failing).
Am I missing something, or do manufacturers really not give a s
t about fitness-for-purpose? And none of the websites let you filter in advance on bulb type, so you trawl through hundreds of options and then end up discounting all the good looking ones.

Bayonet cap tungsten here - no problems at all
Precisely.
Hell, bayonet and SES LEDs make sense nowadays (if you buy branded bulbs not Amazon specials), but these silly little things are just style masquerading over substance, and sadly most of B&Q and Dunelm's offerings appear to be G9 or even more esoteric fitments, so I'm now looking at the random internet merchants hoping to find something suitable from someone reliable.
We've got 16 G9 bulbs in our house - B&Q fittings.
We've been here 6 and a half years now, with them having been fitted for between 6 years in the kitchen and about 4 years in the hall and not had a single bulb failure.
The bulbs are the cheapest ones from Amazon that came up when i typed 'no flicker g9' in; as the B&Q bulbs and various other increasingly expensive brands (phillips etc) made me feel sick in a very short time.
Sometimes it seems you dont get what you pay for!
