Gettting a TVR Insured after writing off previous TVR
Discussion
Had an unfortunate accident a couple of weeks ago. Broken down car on the exit of a corner on a country road, quick decision hit broken down car at 40mph or grab a few more feet stopping distance and hope the guy coming the other way stops before a head on. Anyway long story short, head on crash happened (about 20mph impact) no injuries other than bruising but my Chim was written off by the insurance company as uneconomical to repair.
Now I have been given my settlement figure for the write off and am considering another TVR. I will be adding some more cash and hope to get a Tamora and I was wondering if anyone could give me their experience of insuring a TVR having had a write off in one previously? Huge increase in premium or manageable? Who is the best insurance company to approach in this situation?

I have raised that subject with the insurance company. The car that was broken down was a peugot 206 with the infamous electronics problem.
The driver of the 206 was on their mobile after the accident complaining that it was the 7th time that the car had broken down.... it was on a 53 plate.
Insurance company was not particulary hopeful at recovering cash from them as they would have to demonstrate negligence and this isn't easy.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I'd agree with your insurers that it would be virtually impossible to hold the broken down car responsible. Your only line of defence, may be that the car could have been pushed out of the way before the accident happened. It would also have been a good idea for the stranded motorist to alert approaching motorists as to the hazard. Even so, establishing negligence will be very hard to prove.
If you have lost NCD as opposed to a losing a life under protected NCD then your premium may jump up considerably. Ring your insurers/brokers and ask them to do a quote based on your existing risk details but allowing for the loss of NCD and see what comes up. Changing the car mid term shouldn't affect your premium much as you will pay the additional premium (if any) based on your current discounts. The time it will affect you will be at renewal.
If the replacement car is a lower calculated risk than your existing car, don't expect to get any refund as you would normally in a mid-term alteration.
Good luck.
edited: just read - protected - good news! - this way it's just a life against (unless you've already made a number of claims) and shouldn't affect your premium considerably.

Sory to hear about your recent loss, glad that no one was hurt.
I wrote my Griff off in January this year, total loss and no third party to claim off.
I have an Allianz Cornhill policy through A.Mannings, we agreed a settlement figure within 4 days of the accident and I bought a replacement Griff the following week.
I was expecting a hefty thump from the insurers as I didnt have protected no claim as it was my first year of TVR ownership but i did have PNCB on my previous car. I phoned Mannings and was surprised that A. they would re-insure me and, B. my premium only went up by £50.
