I'm thinking about doing some sprinting next year to complement the somewhat irregular circuit racing I do (usually just a handful of races per year).

I'd like to do it in my road going Porsche Cayman to avoid the hassle of trailering my race car.

The car has been setup for track days but I was wondering, can one get away with more road biased brake pads for sprinting? Since it is only one lap at a time, I assume that they never get that hot anyway?

Other than an extinguisher and timing gear, is there anything else I need to be aware of and/or that is recommended?

Road biased brake pads should be fine even though some events incorporate up to 2 laps.

Fire extinguisher is not mandatory, although recommended.

You will however require a tow hook at the front (some organisers also require a rear one), a timing strut and an 'ignition off' sticker.

That's great, thank you. Tow hooks are fine and I'll undoubtedly have an ignition sticker somewhere with my racecar stuff

I’ve always used OEM pads for sprints and hillclimbs. Being able to trust that they will work cold when you arrive at the first corner is far more important than fade resistance when you’re only doing 3 miles at even the longest sprints.

And some yellow tape around the battery negative lead

Got pulled up on that one. Plus the battery positive terminal needs to be covered (once we used a Costa Coffee loyalty card for this).

I fitted Roddisons brake pads in my sprint/hill climb car, they work really well on the events but are still good on the road on the odd occasion I use the car on the road,
