Hi all

Some years ago I bought some Amazon led strip light that runs above my garage doors(5m). Here it is

https://amzn.eu/d/f6a466R

Lots of the leds have gone and I’d like to replace it with something of better quality so probably not Amazon, there seem to be quite a few specialist websites.

I know I need ip65 and 5m(plus about 0.5 cable to go through the cavity wall)but after that I’m not sure which connectors I need. What I bought from Amazon came with the power supply/plug so required no effort on that front. Any help appreciated.

From experience with similar stuff over my garage door I'd suggest you have two choices:

Buy cheap stuff - same again and replace it in another 5 years.

Buy good stuff and hope it lasts longer.

I didn't lose any of the lights, it just faded. They were quite acceptable and would've done another few years, but I also wanted a longer strip, so stayed with the same brand - Lepro. I figured £16 every 5 years is OK for me.

I bought these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B088YSLWGJ?ref_=ppx_hz...

Would something like this work ?

I use TLC for all my DIY electrical bits, theyre well priced and the datasheets / instructions on every product is really useful

These would do the job but seem to be aimed at indoor use. That said, will it matter or are they all as average as one another?

If you want to make it last, it needs to be fitted onto a heatsink, led channel is cheap.
I’ve seen installations where led tape has been fitted over a mix of MDF and aluminium extrusion.
The failures always occur on the MDF sections after a few years.

If you want brighter look for cob tape. Gives a good uniform distribution and decent output without over driving the leds.

Just been looking at this and have bought this

Hoping the power cable is appropriate to go through the hole in my wall, it’ll go back thanks Amazon if not.

Thanks - looks good and will keep it on my list for when the current strip needs changing.

I have the power inside and run the strip through a small hole along the frame.

Had to send it back. The issue I now realise is that my electric garage doors were installed after I drilled the access hole and ran the cable through. It is now almost impossible to access the hole which is a pain.

So I’ve ordered a joiner:

More strip:

All very cheap so replacing fairly often would not get me upset biggrin

Obviously a bit late to the party on this but for future and others, I would highly recommend Orko Lighting: https://www.orkolighting.co.uk
