Been watching this story with interest. It illustrates just how in thrall to China not only our politicians are, but also our educational institutions.

TLDR: a researcher, Professor Laura Murphy, at Sheffield Hallam University was researching human rights in China. China intervenes and threatens staff in the universities business in China.

Absolute nonsense and the govt shouldn't tolerate it at all, presumably Sheffield Hallam will also need a new Chancellor given the current one must struggle to do their job with no spine.

This has been known about in HE circles for some time. Too concerned over getting bums on seats and absolutely not an outlier in this.

Couple this with the government being in thrall to Chinese influence in various ways as recently discussed, spy case, embassy, threatening words over wind generator factory, pulling work from chip factory threatening supplies to car makers, threatening Starmer demanding support for their claims to Taiwan, complete disregard for treaty re Hong Kong, never mind the never ending industrial espionage, and abuse of intellectual property rights it's about time we got some spine and told this stain on the world to FRO.

At least it seems they might have stopped buying Putin's oil, though they have God knows how many tankers full of oil moored up.

This is the new world order. The UK were masters of this during Empire and up until recently our 'special' friends in the USA would do similar to our joint benefit. Now that trump is accelerating the decline in the USA, China is starting to flex it's muscles as it takes over the world super-power mantle.

This meddling in foreign affairs will only accelerate as China gains more power and influence.
