Are you sure the speedo is the problem? It's usually a snapped drive cable - Speedy Cables can fix or supply new.

Just figured it will be a easier and probably cheaper fix.

Not used one, but considering it (not for my TVR) so please let us know if you do go down this route, as my spedo is inaccurate after changing the rear diff ratio.

A friend has a GPS speed sender on a motorbike. One thing to consider is the time it takes to acquire the satellites, and hence no speed reading on start-up. His has a permanent live that keeps tracking satellites even when the car is switched off (it has a very low power drain) sounds like a good idea (except if the car is a garage!).

I have been using a GPS heads up display that plug's into the cigarette lighter socket and that takes a matter of seconds to start working it only gets power when the ignition is on.

I now have one in my possession going to fit it tomorrow hopefully.
Out of interest does anyone else's column have flex in it think the pile of washers to lower it doesn't help.

Just got to the back of the spedo (not easy) it's mechanical FFS so this won't work going to have to put a stand alone GPS one in now I have one in my boat and it works well.

If you stick a screwdriver in the speedo outlet and spin it, does the speedo move? If so then its just the cable or plastic wheel in the gearbox. Both very easy fixes.

There's no cable at all which is what made me think it was electrical I have now purchased a vdo digital spedo and I will still use the GPS receiver I brought.
While I have the dash out I'm also going to replace the voltage meter with an oil temperature gauge as there's a digital voltmeter on the cigarette lighter I will also replace the temperature gauge as it doesn't work .
i am rebuilding a 4.6 hc top hat engine so I really want to keep an eye on what's going on with it because I'm going to be roughly 5k into it and will cry if it overheats and fails.

The early Tasmin's column was hung off a bracket bolted through the firewall, it was more flexible than a Labour party manifesto.
Later cars got an extra beam across between the lower A pillars which helped but even in '87 there was still some movement. Renewing the column inner bushes might help a bit.

I will put the bearing on the winter to do list 👍.
I tried a different approach to fixing the column back by inverting the 2 large bolts so the thread is at the bottom then putting 2 nuts on and tightened them up,
Then the column followed by a washer and lock nut the results are good well worth the effort.
Mine has the additional strut btw.

Is the steering column identical to the SD1 Rover in the later wedges? I have play in the top bush of my steering column, but I saw the whole column is available for the SD1 brand new for £60!

Many years ago I may have used the speedo connector at the back of the dash of my TVR for milometer control.

Rev counter was fine for rough speed calculation.

No scameras to worry about in those days.

Happy memories.
