Good you got all the initial running issues sorted.

I've still got a lot of work to do before I can start thinking about running it in.

Still can quite get the hot idle down. Its sitting at about 950rpm (cold is 750). Am i asking too much? I'm presuming its a characteristic of old throttle bodies. I just can shut them down any further with out the AFRs starting to go out.

More fiddling required.

One of the things Dom mentioned to me was that any leaks on the throttles would cause more of an issue after the engine was rebuilt. Have you got gaskets or just sealant between the head and TBs?

Yes I used Powers gaskets. We checked spindle wear and they seem tight. No discernible free movement but possibly still pulling in air through them I guess. I’ll try the ol carb cleaner on the out side of the throttle body linkages and watch the AFRs.

I remember reading somewhere that you might get air leaks through the throttle pots! Is this possible? Is that why they recommend siliconing the TPs to the mount or is that just water ingress?

Worth checking all the vacuum pipes between the TBs and the Y vacuum pipe back to the brake servo as well, if using original tubing.

Will do. Vacuum pipe to the carbon canister too I guess. If the little solenoid on the body of the canister failed would that cause an air leak do you think?
