Ok - im Curious ...
How many of the PH Clan are Fitness Fanatics ?
Who attends the Gym most times in the week ?

And does anyone actually stick to a strict diet.

Ive been out of the Gym for over a year and now getting back into the swing of things.
I forgot how good I felt after training but I think I over did it previously going 6 days a week and running 5 times weekly.

Anyone else train like there is no tomorrow ?
:)

Whilst some people's bodies are temples, mine is more of an amusement park..

Used to be a real gym nut; would cycle a 12 mile round trip to get there after work.. Then I got a job which meant I lived in hotels 4/5 days a week and had to wear a suit for a living.. All went to pot.. Slowly getting back into it, but am somehow discovering I can't do what I used to do 10 years ago.

Gym 4-5 times a week, mainly because I like my food and also want to get fitter, to feel good not necessarily look good.

I used to go every morning at 8 (when it opened) but I have lectures starting at 9 every morning this semester so is usually afternoon/evening.

After letting myself go completely in the last 5-6 years I have just started circuit training.

I bought a mountain bike but will not force myself to get out of breath its absolutely no use to me. I cant stand gyms as they bore me to tears my mind wanders.

So I am trying the circuits. so far so good first go last Wednesday took me to Sunday before I stopped aching.
Went again yesterday. I'm completely knackered by 5 minutes in during the warm up. with other people there it seems to push me to actualy move altough I have to take it steady and probably will do for at least 3 months

Yeah i know what you mean - I have to listen to Heavy Rap Music (dont groan all!) when Im on the Treadmill as it (running) bores the crap out of me but I know its a means to an end but the difference is noticable with the exception of knee pains if I run on grass or the streets.

Cant stand eleptical machines (is that how its spelt?)
Weights are always fun but the shirts have stopped fitting already (expensive experience) so I have to stop the extra Protein and so requires more CV (Boring)

Could live in a weights room though (TBH)
always good training with another person who is dedicated.

however, even this doesnt seem to be working anymore so am now on a diet too.

Go to the gym 3 - 4 nights a week and either gym on sunday or long run on the road.

In the gym I'll cycle & stretch to warm up, then run between 7 - 10k then back on the bike for 20 minutes.

Sunday is a run anywhere between 10 - 21k either on treadmill or road.

Not as much as I used to do before I did my back in about 2 & 1/2 years ago - but now getting back into it!

Shirley it is the food and drink rather than a lack of exercise. I am getting up to speed to eradicate tum and it's the calories that seem to hold the key (expenditure>intake)

Yes, i am going 5 or 6 times in a week.
I'm going to start doing much more cardio after xmas, so probably twice each day then.
I also watch my diet really closely

Have been general friend to fitness for some time now (did New York 18 mile marathon tune up in a reasonable 2hr 17m few weeks ago) and have just discovered rollerskiing, which is probably best workout I have ever done.

Cross-country skiing is the best overall form of exercise (pros get VO2 max in the 86 range) and this takes it onto the roads. Works upper and lower body and double-poleing is amazing for abdominals. I am learning from this bloke: www.rollerski.co.uk and its worth checking out if you are in London.

I agree, exercise will do nothing for your weight if your diet is rubbish. A martial arts expert told me recently staying in shape is 10% mental attidude, 20% exercise and 70% diet. Having struggled for years with my weight, despite loads of exercise, I can only agree (I LOVE all those foods I shouldn't eat!).

I was successful for a while, I was running 8 miles a day, 5 times a week and with a decent diet I was in perfect shape (11st). Then I ran a 1/2 marathon I wasn't trained up for (had been off running for about a month due to work commitments) and have been suffering terrible shin-splint problems ever since. I can still run on the treadmill (need loud angry rock music myself), but more than 2 nights in a row on the pavement and I can hardly walk. Trouble is, the gym just doesn't have the same effect, so couple that with a very annoying wife who can eat anything she wants, stay slim and has the same love of all things bad for her, I'm now a portly 15 1/2st... (damn you, Temptation!!)

I'm getting better though, have given up on using running to maintain my weight, I'm now taking my mountain bike to work on the train and cycling home (17 miles) 3 times a week and going to the gym twice (still have to do some running, just to keep my fitness up). Still love my junk food too much, but I'm getting there...
