The shift lights are all flashing and the RPM on the display is jumping up to max revs...

but MBE tool shows normal idle speed of around 850rpm...

Any ideas what's causing this? It's never happened before...

Foot-well earth, produced the same result, but on our Tamora...I changed the bolt for a S/S M10 x 50mm grub and Tig welded a nut on to create a bespoke bolt, (I think I mimicked the bolt length, it was a while ago), that could be done up from the foot-well area and held by a Allen key whilst doing the battery box nut/wiring eyelets up. I also changed the Nyloc flange nuts IN the 3 fuse holders for Stay-tight flange nuts as if the fuse got warm the nuts backed off. A@

I got weird activity on my dash when the wrong alternator was fitted. Mine resulted in flickering display and numbers all over the place.

Just did a search and there's a DIY on here, mentions fitting a Rectifier Diode P600A to the D+ connector, is this enough to fix the issue?

This was back in about 2006 and still under warranty so left it to the garage to sort out. All I can say is I remember it being a Land Rover part and Modrich your research does ring a bell.
