ThousandEyes, a website that tracks the performance of local and wide area networks, servers and applications, shows the impact of this morning's outages.

Many of the outages appear to be concentrated in the US, with plenty focused in Virginia, widely considered the global capital for data centres.
Banks are among the web services affected by the major outage.

Users have reported issues at:

Lloyds Bank
Halifax
Bank of Scotland

Issues are also being reported by those trying to access HMRC.

I've been trying to renew my Broadband online with EE since yesterday and not been able to due to a 'Technical issue at their end'. Could be connected with this?

I worked on a project for a well known firm. They were putting a product onto AWS but some days went via Azue. The connection between the two could not meet the firms own security protocol. The project is a headline product pushed by that firms CEO so this was risk accepted to ensure project delivery was not delayed.

The firm in question is one of those listed. They know systems have weaknesses and they do not care.

Alexa has got a massive monk on this morning - although she hasn't gone as far as to start speaking in an American accent, generally indicative of the network being fundamentally borked.

And this is why I don’t worry about Amazon stock being ‘at all time high’ - I’ve said this on the s&p500 thread before - the world relies on these companies to run. Without them the biggest companies in the world are fked.

AWS down!

But the Amazon website is working fine so maybe they don't use their own service smile

Alexa isn't speaking to me and just took 10 minutes to turn the lights on.

Most times when a big outage is reported I don't seem to be affected but today my Ring Doorbells are also off.

It's the end of the world!

It's US-East-1 region specifically. Slightly surprisingh that HRMC would have cloud infrastructure with a North American region dependency.

Your lack of knowledge of anything to do with tech is showing.

Ours has started talking in a very unfamiliar accent...
