But yes I see they're still doing them then so presumably not some sort of fire hazard or risking phone damage.

Just a postscript.
I've had one one of these a month or more now and t's very good at reviving a phone where the battery has gone to 0%
Trying to use a cable may take a day to get a phone to even start accepting charge.
But what I have found is that using the mat, the phone reaches 83% and stops charging. It has gone on to 100% once but only once.
With the cable it will continue to 100% without stopping.
I've had one one of these a month or more now and t's very good at reviving a phone where the battery has gone to 0%

Really? I’ve always found wireless chargers to be gentler than the cabled ones, especially the Apple fast charger. The phone has been known to complain about “slow charger” when it’s charging wirelessly in the past.iOS 26, on the other hand, appears to absolutely wreck batteries in my experience.

I always charge slowly if I can, batteries don't like fast charging. I had a Belkin charge pad, the iPhone was HOT when using it, I just plug in a slow charge cable now, it's no issue for me.
