The other night I was chatting to a friend who teaches at a Church of England school. Recently, in September, they accepted a Muslim child (5 yrs old) who had recently moved into the village.

However, after one week the mother asked to see the teacher and explained that she was concerned that her child would become "indoctrinated" with Christian beliefs. As such, the school have said they'd "tone down" their references to Christianity.

I asked this question of the teacher: "If you sent your child to a Muslim school, and later asked for their teachings to be toned down, do you think the school would oblige?"

Personally, I think I know the answer to the above.

Me too.

However, I think religion should be banned from being tought in schools altogether, as it's one of mankind's most shamefull creations.

When I was at school from '72-'83, all the schools I went to had RE, BUT, this class was optional, and you could choose another subject to take that class's place. Seemed perfectly reasonable then, why not now?

Quite right, when you look at all the pain, suffering and death caused in the name of one god or another through human history it gets quite difficult to stomach....

What did the stupid parents expect from a CoE school?? Shinto?

I don't belive in religion in school either, but that's like walking into a steakhouse and complaining that they sell meat.

Didnt the parents make sure the local school would be suitable before they moved into the area. Or did they expect everyone to bend over backward to accomodate them.

Its like these people who buy a house next to a race track or arport then complain about the noise

They've already done that iirc and banned BRITISH bulldog.

I went to a Catholic school and most of what i can remember from RE wasnt religious at all,it was more like moral education about abortion and suicide and the likes. I liked it just because I got to argue with people.

The one Muslim Child in my daughters class goes of into a seperate room during Assembly and RE requested by the parents.

Its a pity because she is a lovely child her parents refuse to let her go to any birthday party's as they "don't beleive in them" She gets an invite to all of them.

They segregate themselves form the comunity by choise even when invited to join in.

I just don't understand why this school even accepted this child... apart from which if they want a muslim education send them back to Muslimistan, and NOT at our expense!!!
The foreigners should integrate into OUR system and society not us into their poor ignorant backward system which they voluntarily left!!!

They accepted him because they didn't want to be accused of being prejudiced.

In all fairness it could have been banned for any number of reasons, mainly health and safety, I remember the playground looking like something from a world war I battle field after one particularly savage charge......ah those were the days.

It will be interesting, but there will be no evidence of it as no one can take pictures of that sort of thing anymore.

Thats progress.

Dont do that either too prejudice, my Mam is a childminder and the school her kids go to dont have a nativity they do a seasonal celebration or something like that.
