Following the success of the 2025 trip to Provence and the Southern Alps https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... we've started plan the 2026 trip. There are already a number of PHBB posters signed up for the trip to the Italian Dolomites, and I know there are a number of others on here who have expressed an interest in joining us, so, here are the details for the 2026 trip:

The dates for the 2026 Old Gits trip will be from the evening of Friday 12th June 2026 to Sunday 21st June 2026.

Next year we will be going to the Italian Dolomites, with likely destinations of 3 nights in Auronzo di Cadore and 3 nights in Merano. I have some hotels I will be approaching but I want to know the number of people committed to the trip before I approach the hotels so I can make a one off booking of the exact number of rooms. As such, if you want to be on next years trip you'll need to "book blind" not knowing where the exact destinations will be or what the exact costs will be.

As ever, hotels will be in the 3 or 4 star category for the main stay, with good reviews, and will be booked B&B and single occupancy rooms. I'll also be booking the there-and-back hotels in the 2 or 3 star category, again with good reviews, for anyone who wants. Finally, I'm also happy to book Channel crossings (Tunnel or ferries) for anyone who wants.

I'll be aiming to keep the hotel costs below £125 per person per night so, if I book all of the hotels (9 nights) and you're using the Tunnel, the total cost should be no more than £1,200 and likely a little under that.

As ever, while no guarantees can be given on costs, you can be assured that you will only be charged for costs directly applicable to you. You will not be funding any part of anyone else on the trip. All discounts negotiated will be shared equally across all those on the trip.

If you want to be part of the 2026 trip them please DM me to confirm. The option to "sign up" for the trip will close at the end of October 2025 and committing to the trip will require a £250 non-refundable deposit. So fer, we already have 18 Old Gits signed up to the trip next year. While I don't anticipate any number restritions, if there are any issues then spaces will be allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis.

For thosee who may not fully ubnderstand how such a trip works, then the first thing to say is it's up to you. We do not ever attempt to ride as a single group. Infact, our recommendation is that group sizes are kept to about 4. That said, there is no obligation to ride with anyone and if you want to do your own thing, then that's fine. However, there will be a hotel full of people who speak your language and share your passion.

The dates stated include a full day of motorway on the way there and on the way back. This is to give us extra time on the great Dolomites roads. However,, if you don't want to ride on the motorways then you are welcome to start a day earlier and finish a day later. It's only the 6 days in the middle that are important.

We deliberately stay in one location for a few days so that we can enjoy the great roads without having to haul a weeks worth of luggage. 3 nights seems to be perfect for expolring the local roads without having to ride the same roads multiple times.

If you have any questions or something is unclear, then please feel free to ask.

Looking forward to it!

And any excuse to litter threads with pretty photos ruined by the orange monstrosity to tempt people:

At least one of those is from the Dolomites I'm sure!

It's a heck of a trip and having been 3 times now, I enjoy each more than the last!

Whether it's someone's first time leaving the country on their bike, or just another trip in a long list, everybody has a great time... apart from having to put up with me!

Ah, would have loved to have made this trip but a family Disneyland trip is taking priority next year!
I was in the dolomites 2 year ago, absolutely fantastic riding roads. Jealous AF!

Very very jealous! Like Ste_rsv4 above, a family trip to Disney is going to eat this up (I don't think we're related - unless you have inlaws coming from Australia).

Hope you have a fabulous time.

Oh, blimey, maybe I should learn to ride a bike?

Have you sketched out a route yet? East into Germany, then south into the mountains through some combo of Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein before getting into Italy?

The outline plan is to do a stop over on the way there somewhere betweem Stuttgart and Austria, then, on the way back, somewhere east of Strasbourg.

I am seriously tempted!
Always wanted to do a Euro tour and been rather jealous of the adventures/reports on the previous years tours you guys have done smile

Need to check the dates with the wife for holiday plans she's not told me about and sons GCSE's should hopefully more or less complete by 12th June! With any luck the sun, moon and stars will align. Will let you know in good time before end of Oct.

Cheers!

Orange monstrosity? I wouldn’t dare to comment wink

Assuming I’m still above ground, hale and hearty this will be my 9th OG trip.

This was on the way down to the last Dolomites trip a few years back.

The Chief gave sterling service on the long hauls and the twisties (I still have it). But while mostl folks of a certain age downsize to something lighter and more manageable, I went in the other direction for the last (and hopefully next) trip. Great weather protection, luggage capacity, comfy…and it handles the hairpins well too wink

Doesn’t have to be a sports bike or a GS, proper tourers work too smile

On our way down to the Dolomites in 2024, we stayed at the Gasthof Zum Schwanen in Memmingen. Excellent hotel in a lovely town, private parking at the rear.

You'd be very welcome.

I was surprised how well it covered the ground when we moved from Castellane to Barcelonnette. We really must do a "swaps" ride on the next trip.

After reading the previous threads on here I joined the old gits this year for the first time. Had never met anyone on the tour before leaving Glasgow. Couldn't have been made more welcome. Highly recommend it to anyone, will be something for everyone. Really great group of people. Organisation was seemless.

Any excuse for some photos.

Bike friendly hotel east of Strasbourg, stayed here for a couple of nights earlier this year on a Black Forest/Vosges trip. Nice little town & garage parking for bikes, not sure if they'd fit 20ish of you in the garage but also a car park round the back.
