I was amazed to find such a limited choice when a family member asked for options to replace their MX5 RF.

Requirements are:
  • New
  • 2 door convertible
  • Petrol, manual gearbox
  • Similar size to MX5 (it has to fit in the garage where it's tight even for the MX5)

Only option I can find, regardless of budget, is a Morgan Plus Four (or a new MX5). What have I missed? confused

I don't think there is anything new. That segment of car is dead now.

Do you know, I can't think of anything. Even going Electric, I can't think of many, only the Cyberster?

Why the requirement to replace? Is it to do with the plate showing the neighbours they have a new car, or some other reason?

A VW T-Roc ticks those boxes but they're no lookers.

Nice idea, but they're more roofless with a shower cap than convertible. hehe Too impractical also; this will be an only car, and I can't see their 91 year old Mother clambering in and out when she needs to be taken somewhere. biggrin

Not available new as far as I can see, but was my first thought.

I don't have full details, but believe their current one is quite high mileage and starting to exhibit expensive to fix faults. frown They have had a string of MX5s so I think would like a change.

Good shout, and worth a look. It's no sports car though, and may be too large for the garage. hehe

That point alone makes it difficult to find something suitable. The MX5 has remarkably grown very little since the original NA model (in fact the ND is actually 3.2cm shorter!) while something like the Z4 is 30cm longer than the original Z3.

From the looks, the Cyberster is a bit of a whoppa too. 62cm longer and 18cm wider!!!!
