Right, it's end of tether time here

Two questions

1. What the f:censored:k shall I do

2. How shall I resign

I'm currently in IT, but so specialised I don't think I can move easily. Really fancy a change, something outdoors pratical maybe

current fave resignation letter below

Dear ______

After an appropriate period of deliberation, I have come to the decision to tender my resignation from (company name), effective November 10, 2004.

Please know that I still maintain a high level of respect for you as a manager and colleague, and I thank you sincerely for the support and assistance you have offered me in each of those roles. I have been proud to work for (company name) over the past eight years; it has been a journey that has provided me with an unparalleled foundation to move forward to new and exciting opportunities.

As such, I have decided to become a professional pirate. It has always been a dream of mine to live the life of a swashbuckling corsair, beholden to none and master of all I survey. Once my crew of unabashed rogues is assembled, we shall take to the capacious expanse of the high seas to pursue fortune, fame, and hair-raising adventure.

Our path may not be filled with the porcine comforts and technological marvels that (company name) provides, but we shall nonetheless move forward to carve a name for ourselves in the annals of bold insurgency and death-defying derring-do. Once I have a keen blade at my hip and the Jolly Roger is flapping high above me, I believe I will find my true calling.

Please note that I am currently accepting applications for First Officer, if you are at all interested in applying. I will provide a full medical and dental plan, which will offer immediate coverage of all maladies other than scurvy and the occasional bout of rickets.

Sincerely

Plotloss

I like the sound of professional pirate'ism, but tendering your resignation now for 10/11/04 surely is not the best way forwards...

Yaaaaaarg...

Yes I can afford the salary drop, it wouldn't be that far TBH if I went for something like building

I enjoy that as a hobby, but only I think because it's so different from the day to day grind. I'm not sure I could do it as a bussiness. Definately one on the cards though

I'm even considering going back into the motor trade

When I last wrote a resignation letter I was asked to re-write it because it made the boss look like the idiot he was. That's corporate muppets for you. And like a fool I obliged.

Not buying and selling, I'm too honest and then people don't beleive me

I don't think there's any (much) money building kit cars for people. The whole point is the self build

I could do Caterhams and race support, but the factory pretty much have this sorted, not sure what my USP would be.

You'd be surprised at how little you can live on, and how many job applications you can make in a week.

My advice is to take a week off, and spend the whole week working your butt off to get a new job,

I was made redundant in Feb this year and it took me three months of hard work to get a new job.

All joking aside (and it's been quite a funny thread so far) I decided what I wanted, put a plan together and worked my arse off to achieve it.

If you want to change career then get the on and do it. Don't waste time talking about it. If you can afford to do it (and I think you've said you can) then go for it.

tree surgeon? Look into the courses (they might start in the new year now but best check) and plan things so that you aren't out of pocket.

If you're in a job you can handle, keep the money coming in (and more important cut back now so you're saving as much as possible) so that you are in the best position possible to achieve your aims.

Don't do things half arsed and please dont burn your bridges when resigning - you never know when you're going to need them again.

Good luck and if there's space I'd like to join your tyrranical party of pirates please. Run 'em up the yeard arm!!
