Hi all - I'm aware this is a bit niche. I'm hoping to be starting a new role in Soho in the coming weeks, but with a 3 days on site per week stipulation.

I've been used to having the luxury of secured underground parking at my last London job, but this job would mean street parking around Soho Square. I've seen that there seems to be plenty of sports around the square - or do they fill up? I would hope to be there 8-8.30am.

Also, would you recommend a bike cover for daytime parking? It's only a 2010 Yamaha XJ6 Diversion, but more for weather protection throughout the winter. And as well I have a top box - is it better recommended to leave it empty and unlocked to prevent any damage from someone trying to see if anything's been left in it?

Depending on the time of year - during winter you'll find a fair few spaces at 0800-0830, in summer a lot less likely after 0800ish on Soho square or the nearby pheonix gardens so you'll proably need to find backup options too. I don't recall either having ground anchors though if that is a consideration for you, and those sites that do have ground anchors installed such as red lion gardens have increasingly had knobends leaving their chains behind blocking use.

As for bike covers - I've seen a few on bikes in London but its not hugely common for commuters, most likely due to trapping moisture next to a hot bike underneath when used in winter and also lack of space to actually get them on/off given how close people tend to park in a lot of the bays in that area.

No ,mention on their website of motorbike parking there, but the Chinatown one nearby does mention it. No pricing for it, so perhaps it could be free there

Thanks for that useful to know. I'm sure once I start (if I get the job!) there may well be other bikers who could show me any secret locations they've found. I was going to go with just a disc lock as the bike's very low on the list of anyone's wish list, but do have a proper chain too if I feel where I'm parking is a bit ropey.

As for the cover, I was in two minds - but you're right, popping it on a hot wet bike is a recipe for a rusty disaster!
