GT86/BRZ - Is rod knock worth worrying about on the FA20
Discussion
Im currently looking to buy a BRZ/86. Naturally im reading into any potential issues to lookout for before buying one and theres two things mentioned a fair few times. The 2012-2013 valve spring recall. That im fully clued up with the intricacies of that.
What is a concern is reports of rod knock, ill be looking at getting an early example with lower mileage with evidence of frequent oil changes for peace of mind.
However is failure generally down to lack of maintenance/track use without the necessary prep or an inherently poor design. Being a boxer engine some argue its the later but likewise i know there’s likely a lot GT86s out there not blowing up with normal daily driving.
Am i just reading into this too much.
