Car servicing woes
Discussion
So my elderly mother bought a car from a main dealer Vauxhall, I think its only like a year old so around from 23 or 24 and returned to them for servicing about last week.
Anyway about a week ago apparently they should have done service.
Oil may been leaking since then, she hadn't noticed or no warnings but hadn't really been using it since servicing too much.
Its now apparently been noticed its leaked oil all her drive and had some kind of low oil ECU alert now though harder to tell with her lack of use of the car and the thinness of the new oil.
I don't know for myself until I see it tomorrow exactly what this means in terms of what oil is left in the car or anything.
I suggested putting a pan underneath to see what else comes out, she hasn't attempted to check the dipstick yet so I will do that tomorrow and see if I can see where the oil is coming from/ if security of anything is loose to explain it.
This is the first I've heard of it today.
For evidential purposes may add to the thread, and could point the offending parties at anything I find later.
Aim to document, but I'm not twisting any spanners or anything as I intend to preserve what I see.
As a mechanical sympathetic I'm wondering if their apparent servicing failure could lead to premature failure and what liability they should accept or consumer rights !
No wonder I service my own cars touch wood, I don't have issues like this. Absolute buffoons.

I work at a car dealership (main dealer). If this ever happens with us the service managers are pretty keen to get the car back straight away and sort it. What you have described I have only seen a couple of times (I'm just an admin but do bookings, see the service reports etc) and both times it was the oil filter not being screwed on tightly enough - a mistake I made myself the first time I serviced my own car. I'm sure if she calls the dealer and explains it has a leak since service they will get onto it straight away, and I am also assuming if she is worried about driving the car she can get Vauxhall roadside assistance to tow it back to the dealer.
Thanks its cool and returned now to the dealer.
Clear its much more of a slower leak, as you say probably filter.
I managed to top up oil for her before setting off
Surprisingly the dipstick was dry but only took roughly 1.5L or so to get it topped up so couldn't have been completely empty of oil, I located it supposed to have 3.5L total so must have still had about 2L in it so guess that's a reasonable sign at least it had SOME oil left.
I tried to have a look but its oriented differently from by vw group cars and has a well secured undertray and didn't bother bringing tools to investigate that far
Also very little info online on where bits like this are on the car and couldn't exactly work out where it was leaking from to get insight what could be.
So leak seemed to be pretty slow and only noticing it getting after the short run down to them after up, starting to make a bit of a pool now - but didn't see any signs of burning oil following her from exhaust so should be reasonably simple correction for them - not the end of the world but hopefully they will tighten properly this time - like I do on all my cars servicing them !
