The best 25 cars of the 21st century
Discussion
Here's the story https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/this-week-in-au...
The subtitle is "On impact alone - what car would you say is the most significant of the last 25 years?" I think the list was partly chosen by readers.
In terms of impact, I can understand why the Qashqai and Cayenne and RR Evoque were chosen. All three created market segments that didn't exist before they came along, and were very profitable for their manufacturers.
Would Porsche still exist to make Boxsters and 911s, if there was no Cayenne or Macan? At the start of the 21st century, Porsche's line up was the Boxster (986) and 911 (996). Could they have survived commercially selling just those two cars?

I perhaps bought too impulsively if it has read most likely to have made its manufacturers corporate board happiest over the next few years would not have bought
I has expected some kind of Evo like compendium of all the great cars we have had in the last 25y
Ironically it’s Autotrader that is likely doomed financially

What a crock of **** their best cars list is a total joke including such gems as Porsche Cayenne, Nissan Qashqai, RR Evoque, Seat Areca, and the Dacia Duster..!?
As the O.P suggested whilst expressing disappointment, it seems that the list refers to commercial success. Often this does not relate to driving pleasure. No doubt that the Quashqai will be the text book example for future business studies students. Similarly the students will study why the Fiat 500 is a success and the Ford Ka a failure. What a crock of **** their best cars list is a total joke including such gems as Porsche Cayenne, Nissan Qashqai, RR Evoque, Seat Areca, and the Dacia Duster..!?

Further proof context is everything...The subtitle is "On impact alone - what car would you say is the most significant of the last 25 years?" I think the list was partly chosen by readers.

Didn't the Megane and Xsara :Picasso pre-date the Qashqai? The subtitle is "On impact alone - what car would you say is the most significant of the last 25 years?" I think the list was partly chosen by readers.

The BMW X5 went on sale before the Cayenne and the X3 long before the Evoque.
So they just followed market sectors others had started, although it worked well for them.
But I wouldn't rate any of them enough to feature in the most significant cars of the last 25 years!

If Evo ran a 25 best, not only would it be printed on superior paper, but would include several lovely drivers’ cars which were a commercial failure! What a crock of **** their best cars list is a total joke including such gems as Porsche Cayenne, Nissan Qashqai, RR Evoque, Seat Areca, and the Dacia Duster..!?
