I'm thinking of buying a DB12 Volante after being a committed Porsche 911 fan for 20yrs and need a change...( Current car is 992 GTS Targa ). I have a few questions if anyone can help. I note on the forum there are a few quality issues, were these just the early cars? Does anyone have a 2025 with rattles and software problems. Also I'm slightly concerned over residuals. I have been offered a discount off a unregistered car. Has anyone recently had purchased one and if so what % should I aim for? Many thanks

Can’t help with most of your queries but If you have concerns about residuals I would strongly suggest you avoid buying a new Aston .

I think I might have beaten the residuals problem.
The secret seems to be buying an 'as new' car when it is 2 years old.

My beautiful Aston Martin has lost about £25,000, but that has been over 14 years of enjoyable ownership.

I was hoping a 25% discount would offset some of the 40% 3yr residuals….. but good point.

That’s not bad… maybe I shall wait.

The difference price wise between a DB11 and a DB12 is testament to that!

There are some mad deals around , my ex business partner wanted a fully specced top of the line Range Rover in November they said that will be £240k he said I will give you £180k to which they said no thanks , in April they rang him ‘do you still want for £180k to which he said yes.

Trouble is the bigger the discount and you see why the depreciation curve is as it is.
If you are planning on keeping the car for a long time ( say 5 years plus ) then it matters far less.
Buying or indeed speccing a brand new Aston is a very special experience but it costs !

I bought a new DB12 Volante around 6 months ago and am absolutely over the moon with it. It’s a huge move on from previous DB cars and (touch wood) as my car came with the latest software installed, I’ve had no issues at all with it. Incredible, beautiful car and I’d highly recommend it!

Thank you that's very helpful. I have a new target price.... The depreciation is a killer even with the discount. Mind you these days even 911's will suffer the similar hits as the well spec cars reach the £160-170k for a GTS etc.

It why I went with a 5 year old Vantage and a 2 year old 296 - both depreciate steeply then reasonably level out.

It'd be worth you driving a Vantage unless you really need the 2+2. Theres a new Vantage S out which is good value.

Lightly used .2 GTS do seem to be coming down in price quite significantly, think I’ve seen them at £125k-ish, but it does feel like they’re now over overpriced from new. Not sure how it complicates the .1 prices, maybe they’ll settle around the £100-110k region while the .2 holds at £120k+.

I’ve got a .1 GTS and hugely miss my DB11. The Porsche is a bit too good but totally devoid of character. The Aston (and I’m assuming the DB12) might be flawed in many ways but is leagues ahead in ‘specialness’ and character.

We went from 992T to Vantage, my son made the exact same comments.
