I was trying to decide where this should go, but in the end I'd hope that this will end up being not just transport related rather a whole cornucopia of well, damn, how did that get there type of pic.

Your starter for 10, as they say. How does a RHD XJS end up in the US (Texas/NM?) still with English plates? (tax due in 1997!)

Spotted this beach vendor in Sierra Leone donning a Royal Mail shirt. I did ask where he got it and he just said the market.

If we're doing cars, I recently spotted this oddity in the northern part of Nicosia, Cyprus.

Any ideas? Even the bloke it belongs to doesn't know!

I spotted this wonderful looking thing on the Adriatic coast of Italy. The beach is sand and you have to walk out for a long way before the water's up to your knees, so this contraption does the job
Could do with a polish though...

I can see the steering means, but not the drive means. How does that motor drive that wheel?

The lady who manage our pre-loved school uniform sales donate all the surplus clothing (and there are absolutely and tonnes of this stuff) to a local charity who ships it to Africa for distribution to less fortunate school kids. I can only assume the Royal Mail shirt has followed a similar route, but ending up in a general market instead.

Yes you see it a lot in Africa

However…..

I was also in Sierra Leone (and as such can only wonder wtf you were!) and my driver was wearing a Wigan Athletic shirt. My colleague being a Sunderland fan queried this and it turned out that a mate of mine from Wigan had gifted it to him the previous month. Small world.

The axle is attached to a hydraulic motor. You can see the pipes coming up from it.

Either the MG has been in continuous use in the intervening period, or the current owner does not realise what 'DNR' stands for.

getmecoat

BTW, I did do a double take in 1992, upon seeing an ex-Royal Mail Sherpa 300, (the ones with the roller shutter replacing the back doors) on the streets of Moscow.

The MG has been in use since 1947! It was my father in law's car that somehow ended up in Denver Colorado.

He was in holiday in Denver just before he died. We discovered his car a year later. I so wish he'd bumped into his car on his holiday!

Cpl Brad Walker, bought it at Anglia Car Auctions while stationed in the UK, it was running but had a mysterious misfire, which despite being brought to the attention of several UK Jaguar Specialist, no one had been able to diagnose..

Back in 93 with an excellent exchange rate USD to GBP, Brad headed off to the Auctions, spied the lovely XJS, which was sure to be the envy of Fort Worth, Texas, the misfire he was sure could be cured by being in a more temperate climate.

Unbeknown to Brad, also at the auction, with a similar idea, was Sgt Randy Taylor from Austin, Texas. Bidding was slow, starting at just £8,500 slowly rising in £500 increments to £10,000, before the auctioneer began accepting £250 bids; finally it stalled at £11,750.

This was Brads opportunity, what followed was a bidding frenzy with the hammer finally falling at £16,250 in Brads favour “What a 6% buyers fee, god dammit in Texas the vendor pays the fee.”

At the time the trade retail price for a decent Jaguar XJ12 in the UK was around £14,000.

Brad returned to the US on leave, the XJS having been shipped earlier as part of his relocation package, he was met at the airport by his loving wife Crystal.

“WTF Brad, first its Japan and a Neeeesan President, next Germany and a Benz S500, now Great Britain and a Jagwar XJ something or other.”
“XJS, Crystal”
“Brad, we can’t even make the payments on my Dodge Neon”.

Brads childhood buddy, self taught mechanic Clint, attempted to get the XJS running, much like Brads other cars, but to no avail, concluding the problem must be the Lucas “invertors of the dark” fuel injection system, $3,250 from the UK.

Like his other automotive acquisitions, this was again a step too far, destitute Brad signed up for a fourth tour of duty, this time in the Middle East.

Crystal found love with the man from the repo company in return she got to keep her trailer park home and Dodge Neon. Clint became to towns foreign car specialist.

Brad shot a bunch of Brits, in what was called friendly fire, there have been rumours of similar things happening in Japan and Germany. However, Brad was honourably discharged after 25 years service. He now drives a Chrysler Crossfire.
