After the X3 purchase turned into a horror story / lucky escape

I am wondering what are Evoque's like, looking at the 2.2 as that seems to be the most common

As a trader we have taken the descision not to sell any Land Rover product.
There are plenty of other choices!

The earlier engines are the more desirable but will be getting on a bit now, avoid the Ingneum.

But if you want reliable you need to be looking at Lexus or Toyota.

We had a 2.2 Evoque HSE a couple of years ago, we kept it for a year and didn't have any problems with it.
We sold it to a 4x4 specialist, who bought it from us via an Autotrader ad. When I spoke with him, his only comment was that they wouldn't touch the 2.0 Ingenium engine ones as its too much of a risk to their reputation.

As long as you aren't concerned re ULEZ I'd certainly go for it, although make sure the cambelt has been changed, from memory its either 8 or 9 years.

I've had a 2.2 for a few years and we went with the simplest version for reliability, 2wd spring suspension 2.2ed4 with no adblue systems. Had dpf issue that cost 300 to permanently fix but hasnt had any problems and it's a nice place to be. I use it off road regularly and it goes well for 2wd and the engine is pretty pokey for a small diesel. Getting 37.1mpg ave.

Boot is smaller than expected. Get one loaded with options as cameras, auto lights etc were all options so many dont have them. Dont even consider a 2.0 diesel at any price.

What year? If it's the ingenium engine then forget it.
If the earlier ones then they are not bad. We ran our 2014 2.2 dynamic from new, only selling at the start of this year. We did 96k in it with zero issues bar a couple of rattles towards the end.

2.2 or petrol wouldn't put me off, we see very little issues with them.

How will you get parts?

What unique attraction(s) does the Evoque have ?

Only genuine parts are an issue at the moment but engine and other mechanical parts are easy enough to obtain aftermarket

I bought a petrol Evoque new in 2019 and still have it. In over 40 years of motoring this is my first JLR product and it has been the most reliable and comfortable car I have ever owned. I am struggling to find something I want to replace it with. I have never owned the same car this long!

Poking my nose in ……
My partner has a 2.2 Disc sport. Been great.
She fancies another evoque though.
Obviously because of the issues we are looking at petrol.
A 1.5 300 hybrid has come up. But im not sure whether to look at it or not. Im sure it will be very nice. But reliable?
Any thoughts?

I would not say attraction as such just whilst looking at cars and for around £7k and with nice spec they looked a good option.

However, having now checked insurance they are not on the radar, currently paying £240 for the Mazda the best quote on the Evoque was over £550 and for the mileage I do that is never going to make sense.

So back to the drawing board, thanks all for your input

Funny you should mention that. We have some very good friends and she is the Dealer Principal for a Mercedes site and word has come down from on high that they’re not to underwrite any Land Rover product offered in part-exchange.

And they send their PX’s to auction…

So they would load up any car over 2.5 litres, given warranty company’s don’t pay out I wouldn’t be bothered about what they think. None of the petrols would put me off

Buy as late as 2.2 model as you can as it will come with the newer 9 speed gearbox and you get a bit better economy and lower tax. They aren't fantastic on MPG though as they're quite heavy and 4wd drag.

Good reliable engine if its been serviced. Timing belt kit is around £100 and £200 fitting so you can budget that in negotiations.

I often drive the other halves and they're a decent comfy drive on the smaller wheels and larger sidewall tyres.
