Is the F87 M2 Comp the bargain of the decade at the moment? Around £30k would get a good one and I can't find anything that comes close for the price.

The PCP deal on my F87 M2 Comp is due to end in around 10 months so I have started to look at possible replacements. The new G87 M2 was top of my list but after getting a few finance quotes I was shocked at how expensive it would be to move into a car that was essentially a bigger, heavier version of my existing car. For reference, my car is only worth £2k less now (after 24k extra miles) than it was when I 'bought' it. If use the equity in the car (roughly £4500) towards a deposit, topped it up with another £5500, the new M2 would still be £750-£900ish a month over 3 years.

718 Caymans and Boxsters are even worse but with the new 2.0 and 2.5 fours, they don't really compare from a drivetrain perspective. I accept PDK is better than DCT though.

I looked at Mustangs but the interior isn't very pleasant. Jaguar P450 f-type really appeals but I am not particularly confident that it would be as reliable as the M2... or as good to drive.

So... what options would you lovely lot suggest? Am I missing anything? Thinking that the best option would be to just refinance and keep the F87?

My son has a Mustang Dark Horse and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised how good the interior is ( And I have owned Bentley's, Porches and fast Audi's). After 7 months of ownership his car still has no creaks or rattles. True the car is a big ole thing, but it looks good and the V8 rumble at standstill and when moving up the rev range is a delight.

Is the correct answer, you have a car you like and know, keep it pay it off and stop the drip, you'll have all the car you need and clearly like without shelling out every month for larger amounts of depreciation and interest payments.

I noticed this one up for sale near me, I know it's not a Comp but still!

(I know it's Facebook, could be a scam, but doesn't appear to me, and I actually bought my last car off there)

I was just about to say the exact same thing smile

OP - just pay for the car you have instead. Is your final payment on PCP less that the car is worth now? If so then an absolute no brainer

Early Giulia quadrifoglios can be had for around £30k.

I suspect that whatever qualities you value in he F87 will be better in the quad.

Thank you all. Very useful feedback and I agree it makes the most sense to keep the car and pay it off. BMW have offered £28500 trade in and PCP balloon is only going to be £22k-ish so bit of a no brainer.

Yep - I was considering M4 comp a few months ago (mostly for the convertible) but fell in love with a Quad when I drove one.

I'm sure the M4 and M2 are excellent cars, but I liked the drive in the Alfa very much, liked the interior layout, loved the power - and I quite like cars that are a little less mainstream - hence Alfa vs BMW is a plus for me. Having said that, we did by a 6 month old BWM a month later (not an M car) - first BMW we've owned - and it's an impressive car.

Fyi Autoid do some beautiful carbon paddles for it. Made all the difference Vs those stty OEM plastic ones.

I had a manual M2 OG, owned it for 3.5yrs. I tuned it to stage 2 and fitted coilovers with spacers and it has CS Style wheels. I sold it and bought a F Type R 575 which was bonkers fast in a straight line but it left me cold......it was just a little dull IMO.

I have just sold the Jag and bought a Cayman GT4 which is much slower but like the M2 puts a smile on my face at any speed and is just more involving to drive.

The M2 (OG or Comp) are fabulous value for money. I also put comp seats in mine because the standard OG seats let it down. The OG sounds much better but with a few mods the comp can be made to sound better than standard. Well worth considering, great cars.

Aren't these shockingly easy to steal? All they have to do is remove the front parking sensor and this gives full access to the CANBUS. Seen numerous videos on YouTube of people having these stolen

Technically yes - but there is also a shockingly easy solution to prevent that from happening (which I won't share on a public forum). Nobody will be stealing my car that way.
(And it's not the parking sensor incidentally).

I've lost count of the number of posts who say their M2 bored the tits off them and sold less than 2 years after purchase.

Had a M2 comp which I purchased in Lockdown, I had been looking a Sunset one would come up and it did about an hour away had it for 3 years and sold it for almost what I had paid for it and put 25k on it.

Looking now I probably sold it at just the right time. I enjoyed the car in the time I had it but I don't think I would have another one now even though the prices are really tempting.

The Quad for similar money is hard to look past!

I have never seen such posts but maybe I didn't look in the right place?

The main complaint I’ve seen about m2s are those who buy them as a second car for weekends or as a “special” car and find it’s missing something.

Those who have them as an all rounder or daily seem to rate them highly.

Mine used to be a weekend / 2nd car and with the tweeks I made it did make it a little more 'special' but its let down by the interior because its bascially a 1 series.

Really needs a decent set of coilovers to sort out the choppy ride, makes a huge difference.

I think this is typical example of journalists equating competence with 'better'. Its a constant, most newer cars are more capable but inevitably lose something along the way.

Some people just want a competent car, others want a more engaging car.

The OG is meant to be the more engaging car but less competent.
