Hi all - after some guidance please.

I’m meeting some friends in Basle next weekend so have taken the opportunity for a bit of a road trip. I leave on the Thursday lunch, head to the channel tunnel and then a couple of hours to a hotel I saw recommended on Seen Through Glass. The Friday I’ll have an early start and about 6 1/2 hours to Basle.

Saturday and Sunday are in Basle but I’m free from Sunday lunch through to my channel tunnel home early evening on the Wednesday to do what I want. So the question is, where’s best to head from the Sunday afternoon.

I’m thinking of heading to the Susten Pass which looks to be a couple of hours. I would then need accommodation for the Sunday night, somewhere to head on the Monday, somewhere to stay Monday night and then start venturing home on the Tuesday.

If anyone has recommendations of where to head and where to stay, I’m all ears. I’ve got a busy few days coming up so very little time for planning!

Thanks in advance!

A trip to the Ring would seem to be the obvious choice.

Strasbourg is good. An interesting mix of French efficiency and German food & beer.

Luxembourg can also be recommended.

Bruges is a one industry tourist trap. Avoid. The clever money goes to Ghent or Antwerp.

It's about 500 miles from Basle to Calais, so you've got plenty of time to split
the journey up into smallish chunks.

Schlumpf museum in Mulhouse is eye opening. Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

But I’d def head for Andermatt (raddison blu is good) and do the 3 passes - Furka, Gotthard and Grimsel

Hassenhorn coaster should be on the list. It’s a toboggan run down a hillside. One of the best. Also the train museum next to the French Automobile Museum, in Mulhouse is great. Colmar, in France is also worth considering; the Venice of France.

Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendations here. I stayed at the Radisson Blu in Andermatt for a couple of nights which was an excellent base.

Despite some snow at the weekend, all passes opened up on the Monday and was perfect weather for the Monday and Tuesday I was there. Managed to get up Grimsel, Farka, Nufenen, Gotthard, Susten and Oberalps in the time I had with minimal traffic. Cracking trip!

Any pictures? I feel the Grimsel was probably the best drive of the passes. Glad hotel worked out, did you walk to old town?

I did have a wander around on the Tuesday morning. Was out before anything opened though. Will see if I can post a few pics.

A while ago there was a thread on here about parking next to cars the same as yours so I couldn’t help myself when, on the way home I pulled into a services somewhere outside of Basle…
