Someone trying to scam my VAT account

Just registered for VAT on a new venture.
Accountant rings today to ask if I'd done online VAT account setup, as he was trying to on my behalf and it was saying an account already existed.
He's spoken with HMRC, and based on what they've told him he's logged a fraud case.
This afternoon, I received a welcome email from HMRC to my business email address.
Anything I need to worry about? Accountant has told me this is the 5th time this year he's seen similar, all with very new VAT registrations. What's going on?

They're getter cleverer, that's for sure.
I regularly receive texts and demand letters from debt recovery agents 'working on behalf of HMRC' claiming I owe Ni payments. The amounts do tally with those that I generally pay. This and the manner of their approach makes them look genuine but enquiry to HMRC has revealed them to be entirely fraudulent.
