Tuscan mk1 boot hinges

I've been battling to get my boot lid to sit nicely on both sides and can get the passenger side OK but the driver's side sits a too high. I've heard this is a common issue and is in part due to the boot strut being on the driver's side only.
However, I've noticed that my boot hinges are quite different and not just mirror images of each other. The forward lower arm curves differently between each side. Maybe this affects how that side sits folded with the strut compressed.


Are these hinges correct or have I got a mis-matched pair? I was looking at the hinges on Motaclan (U2690 and U2691) and was wondering if these, with a strut on each side, would help with the fitment of the boot lid.
Has anyone fitted these to a mk1?

The top picture is the same as my Tamora, and the same as the second hand Chim MK3 ones I purchased, (which run with twin struts). I ended up buying new ones (from two different traders) ...they are Ford Escort Cabrio parts V91AB L42712AB, 13AB. IF you need the hinge, and, (I should have the Chim struts) I have a spare of the side that you need to match the top one. A@
IIRC The convertible pair are the bonnet hinges from a FORD KA 
My struts have gone weak again , so a new set of stainless variable pressure( 450Nm)ones from METROL installed last week ... they have stopped making the short 8mm barrel ones , so had to use 6mm barrel.
I could never understand MK2/MK3 Targas with the "Whale" boot spoiler only being supported by one 550 Newton Metre strut , must put a lot of force on the hinge
I've replaced my hinges before , because of the lateral movement ... they're just crudely "rivetted" together

They're only holding a small roof cover on the StreetKa so not surprising that they're not up to the job for the Tuscan boot. At least the Escort ones on the targa are designed to support a boot panel.A@
I'm guessing the earlier targa hinges could be retro-fitted with the lower gas strut ball mounts and converted to the double short gas struts.

I thought later ones had a modified version of the targa hinge with 2 mounts for short struts. They couldn't fit two earlier style long struts originally because of the petrol cap.Modrich said:

Is your Tuscan a mk1 too? I was hoping this might be possible but I wasn't sure about the stagger or offset between the boot lid bolt holes.Mine are quite offset.
Pictures of the convertible hinge online or those of the Ford Street Ka boot hinges don't quite show the offset clearly.
Could you please post a picture of your boot with the convertible hinges fitted?

I did phone Motaclan today and unfortunately Martin was away on holiday. So... I wasn't able to get much in the way of technical info but I think the following would be a combination to update the boot hinges if the convertible hinge option doesn't work.
1x U2690 Boot hinge - right
1x U2691 Boot hinge - left
2x U2713 Short strut
It is here if you need it...I bought the Chim parts solely for the TVR conversion plates so I could work on them whilst running the car (I could not see them for sale, they are different Tamora to Tuscan and Tuscan ones are being used on both Ford versions of hinge in your pictures). A@
Just info, the Tamora single strut is 180, Chim MK3 with twin struts are 320 each, both using the MK2 version of the Ford Cabriolet boot hinge as they is a Ford cabriolet MK1 version, but then that I have listed the part numbers off the hinges. A@

These are the old ones off my convertible (removed 15 years
) ... they have lateral movement ... Also the Metrol stainless struts that have gone weak. ( I have the same type of struts on my Chim boot , Tuscan Hinged Bonnet and Tuscan Service Bonnet )

I did the same with my Mk1 when I had it resprayed, much better with the balanced short struts. Also gave me an opportunity to delete the bobbin for the original strut and have it filled in and painted.Speed 3 said:

Did you use the original hinge bolt holes into the fibreglass (boot lid and boot aperture sides) with the convertible hinges on your mk1? I'm trying to work out how much fettling is required if I try this route. Could you post a pic or two of your boot hinges please?Dalamar said:
