Why is Japan unable to design a car without modelling it on a European one?

Seen about 10 of these being driven in Manhattan - all in silver by late middle-aged blokes with golfing tans. An exercise in Ugly that will probably sell in thousands because the american car consumer seems to equate everything Lexus make with motoring nirvana... <sigh>

you guys really need to shut the hell up. You wanna criticize it for looking (vaguely) like an audi tt? could be way worse, u know? I'm sure it rides too floaty and drives too calmly for the tastes of the people who regularly peruse pistonheads.com, but hey, this car isn't "for us" its for docs who would otherwise buy slower jaguar xk8's... This is a gorgeous car and is an absolute steal considering its legitimate competition is as much as 30grand more expensive... You can't tell me this car hasn't prevented a few sales of new and slightly used mercedes Sl500's... There's a reason why they don't sell this car as a competitor to a corvette Z06, duh...
