Average speed camera and enforced limit
Discussion
I drive the Grantham to Woolsthorpe leg of the A1 every other week on average. It has average speed cameras & has had for a while.
I do 60 mph in my Ranger & I'm amazed how many Transits etc come by at 70+ mph. Do these cameras (or fixed speed cameras) not compare your speed to a class of vehicle database?

I drive at 55 on the speedo through 50 average limits. Never had a ticket.
TX.
That would suggest that you're only just, if at all, over the 50mph.TX.
TX.
My CTS used to over read by 10%
By law, speedos cars over read by up to 10% but never under read.
Most low volume manufacturers who lack the QA to be certain therefore by default set their cars to +10% while bigger companies might be much closer to the true reading. My KIA for example is spot on.
The only way to be sure is to check against a GPS speedo (those apps in on your phone are actually pretty good provided you keep a steady speed on the level)
I know this because I asked the service dept for my low volume car to set it closer to the accurate figure and they refused, giving this explanation. They insisted on leaving it 10% over.

If your speedo reads 60 then you're definitely going to be doing more than 50mph.

But are you going to be doing more than 56mph?My CTS used to over read by 10%
If it over reads by 6.67% then you're ok

On my car the Sat Nav recognises you are entering an average speed zone check and displays your rolling average speed in a pop-up alert.
It's interesting how quickly your average drops when you drop only a little below the limit, but at least you know accurately your average for the speed check zone.

In addition to the standard speed camera warnings, you also see the following information:
Your average speed is calculated and shown.
Note: It is possible for your current speed to be over the limit and your average speed to be under the limit or vice versa.
The distance to the end of the average speed zone is shown with your average speed.
At the end of the zone, you hear a two-chime warning sound and you can see your final average speed.

Not that I know of and not had any in the post from the 3.5 tonne. I do 60 mph in my Ranger & I'm amazed how many Transits etc come by at 70+ mph. Do these cameras (or fixed speed cameras) not compare your speed to a class of vehicle database?
I set the cruise at 57 in a 50, GPS says 55, every vehicle reads a little over these days, never had one in the post and I am on them 6 days a week.
Got flashed twice in the early hours with the cruise on 85 in a Connect Tourneo, in the variable zones with no limit showing, never heard anything.
