Need some suggestions for a small/medium SUV or hatchback for around 22k that is good for city driving aswell as regular motorway journeys. Doing around 250miles per week on the motorway which could increase. Don't mind electric if that suits as I have a home charger. Needs to be fairly spacious to carry family when not working. Ideally automatic but not fussed.

I'd be inclined to go Korean and get huge spec plus balance of warranty.

Tucson Ultimate will have heated & cooled memory seats, heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise, auto lane keeping, sunroof, etc, etc. Small enough for the town, but nice toys to manage the motorway miles. 2 years left of 5 year warranty.

Electric would be the sensible option with those requirements.

Is the 250 miles a week a single journey? I used to have a polestar 2 and it was very good.

Motorway range was about 200 miles in the depths of winter. More like 230-240 in summer

Yes 250 miles per week is rounded up, have considered the polestar 2. Seen a lot of mixed reviews with these. Definitely in the mix to consider. Thanks.

£22k gets a dual motor long range Tesla Model Y if that appeals. Spacious, automatic, cheap to run. 0-60 in 4.8secs apparently, which should be adequate!

Edit - oops sorry I missed the bit about staying away from Tesla. If you could overcome that it seems a good fit.

Thanks, it was not a no due to the capability of the car itself, more to do with the Mr Musk!!. Thanks though.

Definitely electric.

Tesla still by far the class leader, but hyundai, genesis, kia all offer good alternatives.

Renault 5 is an option too, but otherwise euro manufacturers are about 3-5 years behind, eg the crappy overpriced VW ID lineup, and anything from stellantis.

I'd go for a RAV4 with these requirements.
