Soon my a/c gets installed and the fitter is determined to fit condensate pipes down to the ground. They will be 21.5mm diameter and I have a choice of black or white.

Like almost every house in the country my house is brown, because it's made of bricks, so I want a brown pipe to disguise it a bit. I can't find 21.5mm brown pipe anywhere so my next idea was to choose white pipe and stain it brown with woodstain.

Then I had the idea to find some brown sleeving, perhaps with a slit down one side so it can just be snapped over afterwards. That doesn't seem to exist either.

Has the PH team got a good idea how to turn a black or white pipe brown please?

Fit a larger diameter brown pipe and terminate the 21.5 mm black/white into it at high level?

First thought is that people have their upvc windows painted so look for that paint. Second thought is that preparation of the pipe will be critical.

If you take the gloss off it with some wet'n'dry, ordinary paint will stick well enough.

You can buy brown heatshrink.
Or pipe covers sold for radiators.
Sticky back plastic?

Brown 21.5mm is available, you just have a harder job finding it

That's a good idea! It would look much better than stained white pipe.

There's 32mm brown pipe - that might look OK too.

Decisions...!

This is for the internal units. However the external unit will be wall mounted too.

I rang to ask if they could send a sample - he went off to check stock and said there wasn't any.

Heatshrink - it may fade in the sun and if it comes from China it won't be here in time.
Paint - would work, but could interfere with the fitters.
The favourite I think is to cover the pipe with 32mm brown pipe.

Could try calling Polypipe directly, they may have stock / be able to check other places?

Just called them - they haven't made brown pipe for ages.

Ideally for exterior use you'd give it a coat of paint anyway to protect against UV, so it doesn't really matter what colour it starts out as.

Just modifying this thread a bit... I'm prepared to paint the condensate pipe brown if I have to, but also want brown ducting for the main pipework. The supplier says he can only get it in a pack big enough for 10 houses and wants me to pay for it all, which isn't a goer. So with PH in mind I said I'd make enquires...!

I'm looking for ducting like this, ideally with matching corner and angle bits. It's about 75 x 25mm:

If it exists anywhere, can the combined brains of PH find about 10m plus the bits please?

Im sorry. Maybe this is against the flow of what op wants. But.

You've a socking great ac unit outside the house. Does the colour of the pipe really matter? If the install is neat. Black should be fine.

Full disclosure. We had ac fitted on a 3 story town house this spring and I pondered something similar.

Basically I dgaf now as it does the job and whether the look of my pipes is an issue is irrelevant when I'm inside.

Doesn’t help with the main pipe work but I brought my condensate drain out and ran it down at 45 degrees into a nearby downpipe. I then hid the outdoor unit on one of the back walls where it’s not really visible so as above, IDGAF about the fact the duct doesn’t match. I then ran the interconnecting pipe work through the loft space.
Is that an option at all?
