The satnav screen on my 2007 Aston Martin Vantage has never worked (i.e will not rise from the dash) I have inadvertently started the voice route guidance and cannot turn it off as I cannot see the screen to position the curser to the off position. I have tried re-starting the car a number of times, but the route voice guidance is always on (still with no screen) Does anyone please have a solution? Many Thanks

The screen not rising could well be due to the plastic mechanism being broken or just worn out. The system uses a clutch arrangement that can slip also. There are kits out there that you can buy to replace the parts. Alternatively you can contact Aston Installations in Tewksbury who have them on the shelf and will sort it out in about 30 mins for you.

I'm now going to be one of those incredibly annoying posters who gives you a solution that works on a different car and in a different situation to yours as though it's relevant. But it might help.

In my 2015 V8V I have the next generation dash to you and a Garmin satnav. To "wake" the system from its silent slumbers I press a button marked "Nav". Once the system is alive I can, by pressing and holding the "Nav" button, shut the system down, close the screen and render it silent even if I'm en route to somewhere and it's providing guidance.

I've had a look at images of the earlier generation dash and you don't appear to have the equivalent of a "Nav" button. So can I ask how do you initiate the Volvo nav system you have in your V8V? And would it not provide a similar ability to shut the system down?

The only other suggestion I can make, other than repairing the screen so you can see the menu as suggested by BiggaJ, is for another PH'er to give you a sequence of button presses and joystick movements that will close the system down as I would imagine that, once activated, the Volvo systems will all come "awake" at the same place on the menu at car start up.

Possibly, removing the CD from the player in the boot may work - since then the guidance system will have no route information.

Look forward to

"Satellite navigation system inoperative - disc cannot be read"

being repeated from the Nav speaker at 30 second intervals for the entirety of your journeys. biggrin

Only kidding......possibly

If the screen does not go up, one of the gears has probably broken. You can get a kit to fix this.

As it is broken, you can probably lift it, turn off the Sat Nat and put it back down again.

I should say, the above is what I've done with mine anyway.

I have the kit to fix it, but I haven't bothered. A few times, I've hit the nav button, which turns it on, and the only way to turn it off is to raise the screen, navigate the menu to turn the satellite navigation off, and then push it back down again.

On my 2007, the key combo of Back - Down - Down - Down - Enter (Joystick click) is the way to shut it down. Sometimes it will take several attempts if the menu wasn't last in the right place but if I persist it works. I use this when I want to close my screen but since I replaced the screen with CarPlay I can no longer see the factory navigation.
