2010 Hyundai i20 steering slight clunking noise
Discussion
When I turn the steering wheel from left to right there is a slight clunking noise. I know its not the track rod end arms etc as I could hear the noise coming directly from the steering rack when I was underneath and getting my partner to wiggle the steering wheel.
I think its an electric powered steering and understand the motor is on the steering column. Like I said it appears to be coming from the rack itself. What is the fix for this, do I need to change the steering rack that's if it is that?

There’s a coupler between the motor and the rack that wears / breaks causing this.

Slightly different coupler and (2 bolt as opposed to 3 bolt) motor on the i20. They're not such a common failure point as the i30.Search YouTube for ‘ Hyundai and Kia Steering Wheel Clunk Fix’ need to strip the column down to remove the motor, but the good news is the replacement coupler is available.
I've a spare column u/js and coupler (no motor) if the OP wants to try that.

Thanks, I saw something about that and the motor. The sound is more concentrated around the actual rack though...Search YouTube for ‘ Hyundai and Kia Steering Wheel Clunk Fix’ need to strip the column down to remove the motor, but the good news is the replacement coupler is available.
