Hello, and sorry, this is a bit of a weird one

My VW polo failed it's MOT based on a few minors and a major which was an overheating issue.

I've owned the car for four years so I've had it through four MOTs. I've used a new garage and they are telling me there's no radiator on the car. In any realms of possibility is it possible I've been driving a car with no radiator long distances for four years and had no issues? Also would the other garage not have notice there wasn't one?

Looking for anyone's input, I'm kind of lost here. I can't argue back with them as a I don't know what I'm talking about.

Thanks

Something must be getting lost in translation. Because as you say, if you've been driving it etc etc...there must be a radiator in the car.

Although why it's suddenly overheating is another matter ? Sounds fishy

Of course all you have to do is look for the radiator.

Thanks for replying.

They replaced the exhaust system as it was corroded, there was no overheating issue till the new exhaust was fitted.

I'm waiting for a video from them tomorrow, showing no radiator? I agree it's very fishy, I know not much about cars but my Spidey senses were going off.

100% - they've said it three times now.

If you are not pulling our leg...

......you would surely have noticed the absence of such a key part of kit? hehe

You'd be lucky to drive any distance without a radiator, never mind for four years. (And presumably it was serviced in that time....I suspect a mechanic may have noticed the absence)

Unless, of course, it was stolen whilst in for MOT?

The exhaust system has nothing to do with the cooling system. So why it should start overheating when the exhaust is replaced is a mystery. Are they English speaking? All VW Polos are water cooled, and they all have a radiator. Do they mean something like "radiator fan" which is obviously different?

Are you technically naive to the extent you don't know what is/where is the radiator in a car, if you look under the bonnet?

The only possible explanation I can think of is, they replaced the exhaust, the car was vandalised/parts removed, one of which was the radiator. It is possible, if it were left on a street in certain areas, I believe gangs go round and strip the front end parts off an unsuspecting donor car (including the radiator).
