Etiquette and moderation
Discussion
This forum is a resource for the unenlightened and a place to discuss EVs and alternative fuels, but it is not `the lounge'. There are those who post opinions frequently and do so from a position of complete ignorance. For the love of god either get in the water and post on your experience or go to another swimming pool, or just pose the question, shut up and listen. Vocal anti EV `contributors' who post their unfounded opinions and divert, interrupt and otherwise degrade threads on this forum should have their behaviour moderated. If Evangelistic EV `contributors' went onto the other subforums and posted irrelevant BS about EVs to divert and interrupt discussions they would be told to b*gger off. I request more active moderation.

For non-EV folk like me there is much to be learnt when those in the know refute the "clickbait" themes although there is certainly too much trolling.ShortBeardy said:

I don't think more active moderation is likely to happen on this particular site. The toxic school playground behaviour pegged as "harmless banter" & "just joking around" by a minority of users on here, which is encouraged by the lack of active moderation, probably generates a lot of repeat traffic to the site, which may be a desirable outcome, for those that want people to be visiting the site as much as possible every day.

Yes, they do.
`Gloves off' or not, the issue is not a valid contrary view, but an objection to random unsubstantiated and plain misleading BS that derails an otherwise reasonable discussion.
There’s misinformation everywhere and across all platforms, this little corner of the internet is no different. Essentially the only answer is to better educate our young and develop their critical thinking to a point where they can make better, informed judgements about what’s in front of them. `Gloves off' or not, the issue is not a valid contrary view, but an objection to random unsubstantiated and plain misleading BS that derails an otherwise reasonable discussion.
There are a few posters who have an irrational hatred of EV’s and pounce on every opportunity to get it off their chests, better here than throwing themselves in front of a moving Tesla. History tells us this behaviour is nothing new, flat earthers and conspiracy theorists will continue on their merry way whether they are banned or not, just smile and move on.
Good luck with that.
I do wonder if anti-EV sentiment is dominant among the mods, after all you can't be a car enthusiast and like EV's too, it's a binary decision to like one or the other
That's the way it feels anyway.
It's not many but there's maybe 3-5 people that need banning from all the EV forum and it would make it a much better place.
I'd also have a similar rule to NPE where you need to have been a member for a certain amount of time and a few posts under your belt because the same posting styles pop up with new members, not suspicious at all.

They don't really post in the EV section though do they? Out in general the gloves are off and rightly so.
TX.
This was aimed very much not at you, but there are certain individuals who do just troll on here with no interest in getting an EV and no interest in really getting the facts straight.TX.

Here's a thought. If EV's were sold and marketed on their own merit, and people were able to choose whatever powertrain best suited them and their situation going forward, rather than the market being artificially manipulated and coerced by loud-mouthed people and governments, who (as usual) think they are superior to, and know what is best for everyone else, then the majority of EV critics would disappear overnight.I await my ban.

But more moderation? No. You basically get two types of thread, a genuine conversation helping someone out, or arguments from 2 polarised views where neither side will budge. We have arguments amongst EV owners such as the Musk activities putting off buyers.
The answer is simple, if you don’t like it, walk on by, and stop following that particular thread.

None of this has anything to do with people trolling, does it?I await my ban.
Regulations have long dictated what we drive, it's nothing new. Without them we'd probably all be driving a 5L V8 with 200hp strapped to a girder, or more likely a 20hp steam car (who wants to switch to a fuel for which there's no infrastructure for anyway?).
Sadly, we live in a society where the impact of well over 30 million cars on an island has a huge impact, and there's good reasons to limit that impact.
EV's are being pushed on their own merits, two of these being energy independence and tailpipe emissions. It's just that individuals' selection criteria seldom aligns with what's best for the collective.
I live in diesel country right now. I invite anyone to go help cross the school kids for a morning in winter and still unironically think "people should able to choose whatever powertrain best suits them".

Great stuff, thanks for enlightening all of us, I feel so stupid now. I await my ban.

Surely you mean next ban? I await my ban.
I always thought Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman would be too busy to post here, but no six anti EV posts in around 24 hours?

It was quickly turned into a thread about how great EVs are. About 70% of the posts on that thread were utterly useless because they were all about how great various EVs are.
From a quick tally, only about 10% of the posts in that thread were pro EV. There were far more anti EV posts, many of them based on misinformation. I suppose it's an interesting question what the EV sub-forum is "for": is it a place purely for EV enthusiasts and owners to discuss their experiences, or is it a place for any PHers to discuss the good and bad points of EVs?
I suspect someone who started threads in Biker Banter about motorcycles being the work of the devil would get short shrift from the regulars there - I'm not sure if the "ownership" of these sub-forums feels comparable - don't know.

Well that's a shame. I tend to leave the EV section well alone, no doubt me posting in other sections is enough
TX.
There's some posters on here that visit just about all the topics talking about how they could never own an EV.
TX.
Similar to someone who doesn't like Porsche would go through all the Porsche topics telling people how they can't understand for the life of them why anyone would buy a Porsche.
Gets tiresome.

Same principle as our old English teacher would say. “Always read a paper you disagree with”I suspect someone who started threads in Biker Banter about motorcycles being the work of the devil would get short shrift from the regulars there - I'm not sure if the "ownership" of these sub-forums feels comparable - don't know.
