Turkey?

Not sure about the electorate in the UK , but around here it seems that the vast majority are opposed to inviting Turkey to the party.

Austria held out to the bitter end, but were eventually browbeaten into acquiescing, apparently at the behest of the UK and the USA.

What the USA was doing in the discussion, I'm not to sure, but clearly they were influential.

Any thoughts?

They won't get in for a while yet. Germany and France are opposed and are to have referendums on letting Turkey in. That will kill it. If not EU demands on Cyprus could also kill it off. Also since when has Turkey been in Europe.
